Today, we celebrate the women who mother beyond biology; the nurturers, protectors, providers, advocates and everyday heroes shaping our communities with courage and love.

At NEXTGEN Lawyers, we are honored to walk alongside diverse women from all walks of life, women living with HIV, survivors of violence, women who use drugs, young mothers, caregivers, changemakers, and those too often unseen by systems meant to protect them.

Happy Mother’s Day to every woman carrying love and strength in ways the world may never fully see.

"I fight not because my child is different - but because the world still refuses to make room for him. I dream of more than acceptance. I dream of a world that sees his worth, builds systems around his needs, and gives him the dignity to belong, to thrive, and one day - a future of independence." - Melba Katsivo, Executive Director, Nextgen Lawyers kenya.

At NEXTGEN, we’ve learned one thing—real solutions don’t start in boardrooms. They start with people. With listening. With trust.

Because even as states take the lead, we must hear the voices on the ground—the ones living the reality of TB every day.

This , we stand for systems that don’t just act, but listen.
For responses that are not just led by governments, but powered by communities.

Guess who just bagged an award for Advocacy & Human Rights Champions at this year’s National Health Integration Summit?
Yep… NEXTGEN showed up, spoke up, and showed out.
This win isn’t just ours, it belongs to every partner, ally, and bold voice that refuses to stay silent in the face of injustice. From courtrooms, boardrooms to communities, you’ve walked this journey with us, and we are so grateful.
We’re celebrating today 🥳… but tomorrow, we’re right back to it; breaking barriers, challenging harmful systems, and pushing for a world where human rights, gender equality, and justice are not optional extras, but the standard.

Because if there’s one thing about NEXTGEN...We don’t just advocate, we WIN while doing it ❤️

Our role is always to work alongside communities to equip them with the tools, the language, and the confidence to demand what they deserve. At the 2026 Health Integration Summit, we’ve been reminded that empowerment comes in many forms and al of them are powerful. Sometimes it’s loud. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s deeply personal.
The message from the summit has been clear and impossible to ignore; for health systems to truly work, we must confront what’s broken.
- We must remove structural barriers.
- We must change the laws that exclude.
+ We must transform the practices that harm.

Achieving Health Without Barriers requires commitment towards confronting structural challenges such as stigma, discrimination, gender inequality, and criminalization that continue to shape who can safely access care.

We are excited to see Melba Katindi, Executive Director of Nextgen Lawyers, joining leaders, policymakers, health experts, and advocates at the Health Integration Summit 2026 in Mombasa, Kenya (15–19 March 2026). The summit brings together partners working toward a stronger, more inclusive response to HIV and other health challenges under the theme “Health Without Barriers for Holistic HIV Response.”

This summit will convene government agencies, development partners, civil society, and health professionals to advance integrated, people-centered solutions that break barriers and strengthen national and regional HIV responses.

Be part of the conversation shaping the future of health in Africa.

This International Women’s Day 2026, the theme “Give to Gain” reminds us of a truth we have always known: when women are given space, power, and protection, the world does not lose, it transforms. When a survivor is believed, we gain justice. When a young woman advocate stands in a courtroom and speaks with conviction, we gain a future shaped by beauty in diversity.

At NextGen, this story lives in the women who refuse to disappear. Women who organize in the margins, who challenge harmful laws, who stand beside those the world has tried to forget. They give their voices, their time, their brilliance to a fight that is bigger than any one of us. And in doing so, they remind us that every right we claim, every barrier we dismantle, every woman who walks forward without fear is proof that when women rise, we all gain.

Communities across Kenya have a critical opportunity to shape the future of the country’s social protection system as the government opens public participation on the Social Protection Regulations.

These regulations will determine who qualifies for social protection programs, how beneficiaries are identified, how support is delivered, and how complaints are handled, decisions that directly affect vulnerable communities.

Through a Community Advocacy Guide prepared by Next Generation Lawyers Kenya, communities are being encouraged to ensure the regulations promote gender equality, disability inclusion, and health equity.

For communities affected by HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, strong social protection systems help reduce financial barriers to treatment, improve adherence, and support households facing illness and income loss.

📅 Public Participation: 5 March 2026

The NTLDKenya, in collaboration with the World TB Day planning committee, is hosting a Pre-World TB Day Webinar bringing together community actors, workplaces, and students from institutions of higher learning to address one of the most pressing challenges in TB response: stigma.

This important conversation will feature our Executive Director, Melba Katindi, who will speak on the critical topic: “TB-Related Stigma in Kenya: Understanding Its Impact and Strategies for Reduction.”

Her insights will help unpack how stigma continues to affect prevention, testing, treatment, and community support for people affected by TB, and what practical steps communities and institutions can take to change the narrative.

Kenya’s rollout of lenacapavir, a twice-yearly injectable HIV prevention drug, is a major opportunity to reduce new infections and expand access for vulnerable and often excluded communities. However, the impact of this innovation will depend on how it is implemented. A rights-based, gender-responsive, inclusive approach is essential to ensure voluntary access, protect privacy, support youth and people with disabilities, and prioritise equity. NEXTGEN Lawyers affirms its role in advocating for a just and inclusive rollout that embeds human rights from the start.
