What is a Long-term Resident Visa? Am I eligible?
◇ What is a Resident Visa? ◇
A Long-term Resident Visa is a status of residence that allows a foreign national to reside in Japan for a set period, with special reasons taken into consideration by the Minister of Justice.
To obtain a Long-term Resident Visa, you must fall under the category of " Notification Long-term Resident" or " Off-notification Long-term Resident".
Specifically, who is considered eligible for this status...
● Cases related to Japanese nationals (i.e., foreigners of Japanese descent)
● Cases related to refugees (cases where the home country is in conflict, at war, etc.)
● Minor children dependent on Japanese nationals, permanent residents, or long-term residents
● Cases of divorce or death of the spouse, etc.
Even in cases that do not fall under these examples,
A long-term Resident Visa can be granted as a humanitarian measure.
However, in such cases, the applicant must prove the necessity of living in Japan.
Additionally, there are few restrictions on activities such as working or attending school, and any kind of work is possible. Still, unlike permanent residents, the status of residence must be renewed.
