Hello everyone!
How are you?
In principle, the residency requirement requires that you have resided in Japan for more than 10 years.
However, there are exceptions to this requirement.
If you fall under any of the following categories and apply for permanent residence, the period of stay required for residency will be reduced.
【The spouse of a Japanese national, permanent resident, or special permanent resident】
If you have been in a substantial married life for more than three years and have continuously resided in Japan for more than one year, you will meet the residency requirement.
【Children of Japanese nationals, permanent residents, and special permanent residents】
If you have continuously resided in Japan for more than one year, you will meet the residency requirement.
【Long-term resident】
If you have resided in Japan for more than five years, you will meet the residency requirement.
【Those who have been recognised as refugees】
If you have been residing in Japan for more than five consecutive years after receiving the certification, you will meet the residency requirement.
Please check the next post regarding the special provision for Highly Skilled Professionals.
Feel free to ask anything!
See you in Japan.
