This October, Alex Black, will run almost double the distance that other participants of the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, raising money for the charity that supports adults with learning disabilities.

On 5th October Alex, who is Les Amis Facilities Manager, will start his Miles 4 Smiles challenge with thousands of others by running the Jersey Marathon. However, once he crosses the finish line at the Weighbridge, he’ll carry on with a route that’ll pass all Les Amis’ residential homes until his race finishes after 50 miles with a lap of the running track at FB Fields! 👏

Meet our second runner in the series, Alex Black - Facilities Manager at Les Amis and a man on a mission. 🏃‍♂️💪

On Sunday 5th October, Alex will not only power through the whole 26.2 mile Jersey Marathon course, but continue on to complete a 50-mile ultramarathon, one mile for every year Les Amis has been empowering adults with learning disabilities and associated conditions.

Alex has been training for over 8 months, pushing his limits to raise funds for Project Trinity, a new specialist nursing development that will help the Les Amis community live with greater independence, purpose, and joy.

As part of our , over 200 Jersey businesses like The Halkett Pub & Dining and Liberation Brewing Co. have helped Les Amis recycle over 1 million litres of oil ♻️, enough to fill Queen's Valley Reservoir! 💧

YES, SHE CAN | Val's eighth charity skydive for JSPCA 🪂

Meet Val, one of our residents, who will be skydiving on Monday to raise money for JSPCA Animals' Shelter. This marks Val's eighth charity skydive and we couldn't be more proud 🙌

Val has been supported by for about 22 years, living a full life pursuing her passions. She loves Star Wars and is one of the longest standing members of the Acorn Enterprises team., sorting scrap metal for recycling and weeding with her Darth Vadar fork 👏

With Val's help, we are rewriting the story of learning disabilities in Jersey to prove that 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦

LA MOYE GOLF CLUB | Four team places available for Les Amis Charity Day ⛳

La Moye Golf Club invites non-members to enter a four-person team to take part in the Club's on Saturday 24 August.

The cost is £800 per team (donated directly to Les Amis) and includes:

1️⃣ Rare non-member access to the exclusive course
2️⃣ Halfway house refreshments 🍹
3️⃣ Evening barbecue with entertainment, raffle draw and prize giving 🏆

Teams can be mixed gender and all players must have a current golf handicap.

BECAUSE YOU CAN… 🌻
To anyone who didn’t get the results they hoped for in their ‘A’s or ‘GCSE’s’…
Neither did I.
In fact, I never even took ‘A’ Levels because my school told me I’d be wasting my time, so I left school at 16.
Since then, I’ve taught (literally) thousands of music students and singers and theatre students, after going back to Music College in my thirties.
I’ve trained other teachers to keep that good work going.
I’ve written a unique music programme for babies to 6 year olds who can read and write music by the time they’re 6.
My students have raised more than £150,000 for local charities.
And I’ve just retired from teaching, but I’m not done yet.
SO… if you’re reading this and you aren’t a straight ‘A’ student… be something else brilliant.
Because your unique gift is in you, waiting for you to find it.
Because we’re all different and special.
BECAUSE YOU CAN.
