Si è appena conclusa a New York la Conferenza della Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), un’esperienza straordinaria di confronto internazionale, crescita professionale e connessione umana.
As an international family lawyer, I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a global conversation on the future of the legal profession, international family law, lawyer wellbeing, leadership, and sustainable legal practice.
Ho avuto il privilegio di moderare il panel “Next Gen Lawyers and Legal Wellbeing”, dedicato a un tema oggi centrale: costruire una professione legale più sana, resiliente e attenta alle nuove generazioni di avvocati.

A pause from the UIA Congress in New York.

Every time I come back to this city, I feel that New York has changed — and yet its spirit, energy and atmosphere remain unmistakably the same.

It still feels, in a way, like home.

New York was part of my early journey: the first years of university, the discovery of a different legal culture, and the beginning of an international outlook that would later become central to my professional life.

Today, that path continues through international relationships, cross-border family law cases, and the constant dialogue between different legal systems, cultures and human stories.

One of the strongest messages emerging from this UIA Congress on lawyers’ health and wellbeing is simple, but essential: we must learn to take time for ourselves.

For lawyers, this is not a luxury. It is a professional responsibility.

And it is even more important for those of us who work with families, conflict, separation, children, patrimonial protection and highly emotional disputes. To assist others with clarity, balance and humanity, we must also protect our own inner space.

Walking through New York, between meetings and conference sessions, I am reminded that international law is not only about jurisdictions, treaties and procedures.

It is also about people, bridges, resilience and perspective.

These are not secondary concerns. They are central to the future of law firms, bar associations, legal education, client service, and the rule of law.

Quando un adolescente diventa violento in famiglia, il problema non riguarda solo il singolo comportamento: coinvolge equilibri emotivi, relazioni, paura, senso di colpa e spesso anche il silenzio.
Nel mio articolo pubblicato su MammeMagazine affronto un tema delicato e sempre più urgente: le difficoltà delle famiglie che si trovano a gestire figli adolescenti aggressivi o violenti, tra bisogno di protezione, responsabilità genitoriale e ricerca di aiuto.
Parlarne è fondamentale, perché dietro la violenza domestica agita da un minore possono esserci disagio, fragilità, mancanza di confini, solitudine educativa e dinamiche familiari complesse.
Nessuna famiglia dovrebbe sentirsi sola. Riconoscere il problema è il primo passo per affrontarlo con lucidità, competenza e tutela.

Italy is attracting more and more international millionaires.
But when wealth crosses borders, family law becomes global.
According to Repubblica Finanza / Teleborsa, around 3,600 millionaires chose Italy in 2025, bringing with them an estimated $21 billion in wealth.
This is not only an economic trend.
It is also a legal challenge.
When families live between different countries, everything becomes more complex:
marriage, separation, divorce, children, assets, family businesses, trusts, tax residency and inheritance.
Even a simple choice — such as the matrimonial property regime — can have very different consequences depending on the country involved.
In Italy, couples may choose between separation of assets and community of assets.
But in common law jurisdictions, these concepts may be interpreted differently.
And in an international family crisis, this can make all the difference.
For global families, legal planning is essential.
It is no longer enough to ask:
“Where do we live?”
We must also ask:
“Which law applies?”
“Which court has jurisdiction?”
“How can children and assets be protected?”
“How can long and expensive disputes be avoided?”
The future of family law is international.
And Italy must be ready.
