Piazza Santa Trinita è un luogo il cui nome risale a tempi antichi, ma la sua designazione ufficiale da parte del consiglio comunale avvenne nel dicembre del 1911, quando furono stabiliti i confini rispetto a via de' Tornabuoni, con la quale è stata a lungo associata. Il nome della piazza è un richiamo all'antica chiesa dei monaci vallombrosani, la cui facciata caratterizza lo spazio. Questa chiesa è dedicata alla Santissima Trinità, e le denominazioni della chiesa e della piazza mantengono l'accento sull'antico nominativo latino "Trinitas," rendendo omaggio alla Santissima Trinità.
📌 Via Pellicceria, commonly known as "Pellicceria," owes its name to the ancient workshops of the Art of Furriers or Furriers' Guild that were once located here.
✅ In the past, this street was known as Via dei Pellicciai because it housed workshops and shops specialized in fur processing. The street was longer and narrower than its current configuration. During the medieval period, Via Pellicceria originated near the Church of San Biagio, located in the present-day Piazza di Parte Guelfa, and extended to the Church of San Pier Buonconsiglio, which stood where the Arcone of Piazza della Repubblica now stands.
✅ The houses and towers along this street belonged to some of the oldest Florentine families, such as the Strozzi, Tornabuoni, Pigli or Pilli, and Malegonnelle. Additionally, Via Pellicceria housed the headquarters of the Art of Physicians and Apothecaries, as well as the Art of Oil and Pizzicagnoli. The street bustled with numerous shops, including coppersmiths, linen merchants, cheese sellers, lattice makers, and, most notably, furriers and fur processors.
