About Faculty of Law BHU
The University Law School has been playing a significant role in reforming socially relevant legal education. It played a pioneering role in introducing a 3 year LL.B. Course and a 2 year full time LL.M. Course even before the decision of the Bar Council of India in this regard. The Faculty offers a career oriented training to the students besides Community oriented courses in Law such as Socio-economic Welfare, Environment, Poverty, Population, Consumer, Religion, Women, Children, etc. and provides legal education on rural problems and legal awareness.

Recently the Faculty has introduced for the first time in India a full time 2 year Post-graduate LL.M. degree course on Human Rights and Duties Education on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission Committee under Human Rights & Duties Education scheme. The Faculty has also a HUMAN RIGHTS CELL. The Faculty has provision for more than 25 optional courses on inter-disciplinary subjects relating to legal education in the society, viz. Criminology and Penology, International Economic Laws, Law of Cooperation and Public Control, Law relating to Rural Development, Rent Control, Military Law, Hindu Jurisprudence and Muslim Jurisprudence, etc.

The Legal Aid and Service Clinic being run under Clinical Legal Education Programme is an important component of its LL.B. curriculum. The Faculty library caters to reading and research requirements of about 1000 users. During the past sessions several national seminars/conferences and Sensitization programmes were organised in the Faculty in joint collaboration with National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

Eminent academicians, several legal luminaries and personnel of the Ministry were invited to deliver guest lectures in the Faculty under the auspices of the Current Law Forum. The Faculty teachers have also actively participated in various academic meets. The Faculty publishes annually a standard and authoritative journal under the title of "BANARAS LAW JOURNAL". The contents/texts of the journal are cited by the Research Scholars and Jurists of the High Court and Supreme Court of India.
