Entrepreneur Cell

Entrepreneur Cell Mentoring - Get mentors (entrepreneurs / investors / industry professionals) for the best teams to help them make a Minimum Viable Product (MVP).

Entrepreneur Cell (E -Cell) at MIT School of Business will help the budding entrepreneurs by facilitating them with providing the initial support & necessary resources like consultation and network building. E Cell act as a facilitator and resource institution to motivate, guide and help prospective and existing entrepreneurs in their entrepreneurial endeavors through positive training and interve

ntions. E –Cell will also help them to allocate the table space (if required), depending on the availability of the same)

The objective of E-Cell are -
• To create & develop the E-Cell
• To disseminate knowledge and insights in entrepreneurial theory and practice through lectures activities and workshops.
• To collaborate with similar bodies in other B-schools & technology institutes to accomplish the objectives.
• To seek tie-ups with Non-profit Entrepreneurial organizations connecting e -cell to global network of entrepreneurs.
• To create a strong network of successful entrepreneurs who would like to guide budding entrepreneurs.
• Starting Innovation incubation center
• Ecosystem for early stage entrepreneurs “ STARTUPS”

Activities at E-Cell -
1. Idea Diffusion - Get a creative and fun loving audience; ask them for one line startup ideas; people interested in the same idea can interact and form teams; 1 hour preparation time for chalking out the implementation; 3 minute pitches to pick out the best ideas. [not necessarily an on-spot event only]

2. This can even later be transformed into a course.

3. Business Challenge - And not a B-Plan competition because a 20-30 page document with a lot of big numbers doesn't make a startup. Make the teams pitch their ideas and test them on their knowledge and understanding of their product / technology / service, market, competitors and revenue model. [If you need to shortlist teams ask for slide decks instead on B-Plans]. And include mentoring sessions for the teams before the final event so they can refine their ideas.

4. Case Studies - Students can team up and analyze other startups and make case studies / caselets about them which can also be used as a resource for other students. A good way to start off would be to profile startups run by alumni.

5. Start a Venture - If possible start a venture on campus to get first hand experience of starting up. If that might seem a little difficult, one / more groups can do a pilot run to get a better idea of how real life micro-businesses work.

6. Summer in a Startup - Start an internship program which connects students to startups as summer interns.

7. Big Bouts - Pick up something recent in the news (may / may not be related to startups) invite a few relevant faculty members and a lot of students; have a discussion (debate) moderated by the faculty. The focus of E –Cell for coming 6 Months –
• To collaborate with EDI & send the student to attend the EDI Workshop
• To introduce a E-Cell Magazine – Magazine will discuss on different business ideas, publish a story on budding entrepreneur’s
• Presentations on New Business Idea
• Guest Session – The speaker will discuss the ‘Case Study ‘of his / her business experiences. The focus of E –Cell for next 6 months –
• To figure out the Mentor to our budding entrepreneur, so that they can bring their idea into reality
• Help the young entrepreneurs in facilitating / connecting with the professional bodies for fund raising.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in his new book revealed his secret to great leadership that we think everyone should follow:

"It's our ability to work together that makes our dreams believable and, ultimately, achievable. Taken together, these concepts embody the growth in culture I set out to inculcate at Microsoft. I talked about these ideas every chance I got, but the last thing I wanted was for employees to think of culture as "Satya's thing." I wanted them to see it as their thing. The key to the culture change was individual empowerment. We sometimes underestimate what we each can do to make things happen, and overestimate what others need to do for us. I became irritated once during an employee Q&A when someone asked me, "Why can't I print a document from my mobile phone?" I politely told him, "Make it happen. You have full authority."

In just two sentences, or seven words, Nadella pointed out something very important that leaders don't do.

Stay tuned for more updates!!

Instagram's CEO Kevin Systrom will go down history as one of the greatest Silicon Valley success stories of this generation. Systrom who was responsible for introducing the photo-sharing app to the world had infact no formal engineering training. While working in the marketing department at Nextstop, which Facebook acquired in 2010, he would spend his evenings learning to program. According to Systrom, small projects included combining elements of Foursquare with Mafia Wars.

Russi Modi, Chairman, Tata Steel, was holding a weekly meeting with Tata Steel staff at a football ground in Jamshedpur.

A worker took up a niggling issue. He said the Quality and hygiene of toilets for workers was very bad. Whereas, he pointed out that the cleanliness and hygiene of Executive toilets 🚽are always very good.

Russi asked his top executive how much time he needs to set it right.

The executive asked for a month to set it right. Russi said "I would rather do it in a day. Send me a carpenter."🙂

Next day, when the carpenter came, he ordered the sign boards to be swapped !!!

The sign board on the "workers" toilet was changed to "Executives" and Executive toilet to "Workers".

Russi then gave instructions to inter-change it every fortnight!

The quality of both toilets became on par in 3 days time.

A solution that was immediate and lasting for both! 😊

*Debriefing of this Story*

As a leader, it's your job to listen to the problem patiently but implement the solution quickly.

Always keep finding new ways to solve the problem quickly.

The moment you get this mindset, your path is transformed from normal leadership to a great leadership like Russi Modi
