In a historic move, the Lok Sabha has overwhelmingly passed the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023, with 454 votes in favor.

This groundbreaking legislation, known as the Women's Reservation Bill, aims to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the lower house, State Legislative Assemblies, and the Legislative Assembly of Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed it as a milestone in empowering women in politics, emphasizing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government's commitment to gender equality.

The bill will take effect after a delimitation exercise following the next census and is set to be enforced for 15 years.
