These days I'm getting many queries from Juniors (fresh passouts) seeking guidance on their career after completing LL.B.
By penning down this peice here on LinkedIn, I'm settling down this issue for one's and all with my opinion herein under with some common queries received:
1. Bhaiya, can LL.M. and Court Practice go hand in hand?
- No, it can't. Choose either LL.M. or Court Practice. Both have it's own pros and cons. Never choose an LL.M. just because you need an escapegoat to remain in hostel or college for few more years. Choose it only if you're interested in deep research and wish to pursue career in academics.
Court Practice is not a second option or a degraded one- kuch nahin hua to kar liye. Think for your clients - who come to you with all hopes and hard earned money with a trust that you will handle his/her case deligently. If you're in Court Practice, that's it. No LL.M., no other part time engagement.
2. Bhaiya, can I do LL.M. and Judiciary Preparation together?
- No, one should either pursue an LL.M. or Judiciary Preparation at one time. Don't/Never mix it up. It needs hard work and dedication for both. Diversion in any of them will be a disrespect for both. If aiming at Judicial Services - go for a good coaching for few years/months. Crack it. Get a job. Do not waste time and seat in a good institution for LL.M.
3. Bhaiya, can I do Court Practice and in the meanwhile prepare for Judicial Services Exam?
- No. It will be a blunder for you and your clients who trusted your services.
Conclusion:
Do one thing at a time. If interested in litigation - go for it. Take up cases, research on them, argue. Give your best.
If interested in Judicial Services Exam - go for a good coaching.
If interested in pursuing an LL.M. - go for a good institution, pursue career in academics.
BEECH KA RAASTA NAHIN HOTA. REMEMBER THIS.
