Why it is called "PASSPORT"
With development of Ships and long distance sailing most of the International Travel was by sailing ships. Need of a document was felt which will grant safe passage to important Court members across different ports and borders . In France During the reign of King Louis ( 1643 -1775 ) , The King granted personally signed document to his court members which was called "PASSE PORT" . It literally meant " Pass through the Port" . This two word name gradually became a single word and across the world is called PASSPORT which is a document confirming citizenship of holder and his permission of travel across borders by way of Visa granted.

अब पासपोर्ट बनाना और आसान . पासपोर्ट सेवा भी अब डिजिलॉकर से जुड़ जाएगा . डॉक्यूमेंट को फिजिकली ले जाने की झंझट से छुटकारा
पासपोर्ट के लिए आवेदन करने वाले डिजिलॉकर के माध्यम से अपने दस्तावेज जमा करा सकेंगे .

भारत की विदेश मंत्रालय (Ministry of External Affairs) ने अब पासपोर्ट सेवा को भी डिजिलॉकर (Digital Locker) प्लेटफॉर्म से जोड़ दिया है.

डिजिटल लॉकर (Digital Locker) जिसे डिजीलॉकर भी कहा जाता है, एक तरह का वर्चुअल लॉकर होता है, जिसमें आप अपने जिसमें आप अपने जरूरी डॉक्यूमेंट्स सुरक्षित तरीके से स्टोर कर सकते हैं. यह आधार नंबर से लिंक्ड होता है.

Bihar police have warned that persons indulging in criminal activities during law and order incidents, protest demonstrations and sadak jaam (disruption of road traffic) would find it difficult to get passports — besides government jobs, financial grants by the state, or even bank loans — while Uttarakhand police have said they will maintain a record of people making “anti-national” or “anti-social” posts on social media and make it part of the police verification report for passports.

The orders have come in for criticism for being anti-democratic.

अब पासपोर्ट एप्लीकेशन के पुलिस वेरिफिकेशन में देरी नहीं होगी । एक क्लिक में आपका सत्यापन हो जाएगा और रिपोर्ट पासपोर्ट अफसर के पास पहुंच जाएगी। अभी हाल में बिहार पुलिस ने एम पासपोर्ट पुलिस ऐप लॉन्च करते हुए वेरीफिकेशन की पुलिस व्यवस्था को डिजिटल कर दिया है। इस नई व्यवस्था से लोगों को बड़ी राहत मिलेगी। पुलिस मुख्यालय में गृह विभाग के अपर मुख्य सचिव ने पुलिस पासपोर्ट वेरीफिकेशन की व्यवस्था को डिजिटल करते हुए प्रदेश के सभी थानों को एक-एक टैब देने की बात कही है। पुलिस अधिकारियों का कहना है कि अब पासपोर्ट में पुलिस का वेरीफिकेशन मिनट नहीं सेकेंड में पूरा हो जाएगा।
