Why it is called "PASSPORT"
With development of Ships and long distance sailing most of the International Travel was by sailing ships. Need of a document was felt which will grant safe passage to important Court members across different ports and borders . In France During the reign of King Louis ( 1643 -1775 ) , The King granted personally signed document to his court members which was called "PASSE PORT" . It literally meant " Pass through the Port" . This two word name gradually became a single word and across the world is called PASSPORT which is a document confirming citizenship of holder and his permission of travel across borders by way of Visa granted.
