The Jharkhand government has recently announced several benefits for advocates in the state, including ¹:

- *Medical Insurance*: A medical insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh for all lawyers in the state, which will benefit around 30,000 lawyers.
- *Pension*: An increase in the pension for advocates aged 65 years and above to Rs 14,000 per month, doubled from the previous amount of Rs 7,000.
- *Stipend*: A stipend of Rs 5,000 every month for newly enrolled advocates.

These decisions were made in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and are aimed at improving the welfare of advocates in the state ¹.

Senior Advocate Amit Desai: The only change in A***n Khan’s life will be his Friday visits to the NCB office -

Senior Advocate Amit Desai, who represented both A***n Khan and Arbaaz Merchant in court during the Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) drug raid case speaks to ETimes about his opinions and thoughts on the case and the way Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is interpreted by the agencies and judiciary. Speaking about the way forward for A***n Khan, after having secured bail from the Bombay High Court, Desai says, “Nothing will happen immediately now; the legal process will take its course. A***n is home and he will probably relax and take it easy. Nine more people from the same case have procured bail after A***n. So now, a total of 14 people have got bail in this case. Six people are still in custody.”

Desai reveals that the rest of the people might have to wait longer. He explains, “Because now, the sessions court has gone into a vacation. They might have to wait for another week. If the rest don’t get bail, the NCB, under the NDPS Act, will have to start filing chargesheets in the next few months.”
With respect to A***n, he says, “Till then, we will comply to the bail conditions and this whole issue will continue, calm down, and cool off.”
He further explains that once all the complaints are filed by the agency, the next step of the legal process will begin. He adds, “Depending on what are the allegations in the complaint and what evidence is provided. Right now, there is a bit of a hiatus that has set in. A***n can look forward to some peace.”

Mukul Rohatgi said that the law specifically makes a distinction and if one is a consumer of small quantity, s/he is treated differently. “The law enforcement agencies fail to make this distinction. They leapfrog to commercial quantity,” he said.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who argued on behalf of superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son A***n Khan, in an exclusive interview to India Today, said that there was no evidence against A***n Khan and the case against him was stretched too far by the NCB.

He also said that prosecution agencies try to keep people in jail once they have been arrested. “Sensitizing law enforcement agencies will go a long way in decongesting prisons,” the former Attorney General for India said.

'DISTINCTION BETWEEN SMALL AND COMMERCIAL QUANTITIES IGNORED'

Speaking on the Bombay High Court’s decision to grant bail to A***n Khan, Rohatgi told India Today that there were two important aspects of the case — there was no recovery from A***n Khan and, at best, he was associated with Arbaaz Merchantt.

“There was no proof of consumption, peddling, or carrying large amounts. Yet, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) tried to make it a case of commercial quantity, which was stretching it too far.”

A***n Khan will not be released from jail today; Arthur Road Jail superintendent says bail rules will not change for Shah Rukh Khan's sonA***n Khan will have to spend another night behind bars owing to a delay in paperwork for his bail. As fans and the media waited for the star kid to return home late Friday evening, Arthur Road Jail superintendent, Nitin Vayachal said in a statement to the media, "Bail box has opened for the last time at 5.30 pm today. Rules will not be changed for anyone."
The jail superintendent further added that A***n, the son of Bollywood superstar, will not be released today, but will be released tomorrow morning.At around 5.30 pm, it was confirmed that actress Juhi Chawla completed the formalities to secure the star kid's bail. The court accepted her as the surety and she signed the relevant papers and executed the bail bond before the court officials.
The bail papers were then sent directly to the jail authorities for processing. However, according to news portals, the physical copy of the release order was dropped in the bail box after the stipulated time.
Waychal said to ANI, "A physical copy of the release order has to be put into the bail box outside Arthur Road Jail for the release. The jail officials wait until 5.35 pm for thisThe Bombay High Court granted bail to A***n, with a Rs 1 lakh bond, as per the orders issued on Friday.

Sambre asked Khan and the two other accused to furnish one or more surety and not leave Mumbai or India without the permission of the Narcotics Control Bureau investigating officer.They have been asked not to indulge in similar activities, not make any public statements about the case, attend the NCB office every Friday between 11 am - 2 pm and also go there as and when called.
The court has also directed them not to indulge in influencing witnesses in any manner, attempt to delay the trial and attend court on all dates in the order.

Shah Rukh Khan has hired a new lawyer, Amit Desai, to represent son A***n Khan in the Mumbai cruise drugs case. A***n's bail plea hearing will take place on Wednesday, October 13.

Advocate Amit Desai, who got Salman Khan acquitted in the 2002 hit-and-run case has been hired by Shah Rukh Khan to represent son A***n Khan in the Mumbai cruise drugs case.

AMIT DESAI appeared for A***n Khan in court. After being served notice for the bail plea, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) counsel told the court that the agency needs at least a week’s time to file replies as there are multiple bail pleas pending in the drugs case. Defending A***n, Amit Desai said, “The man is already inside the prison for a week. Bail hearing does not have to depend on investigation. I am not arguing bail, I am only arguing for a date."

He added, "Just because of their administrative reason, the liberty of someone should not be curtailed. Their investigation may continue. So far as this boy (A***n Khan) is concerned. The maximum sentence can only be one year. There is no material against him and no substance was found on him. So, if they say that they need time for another week then look at the fact that it is only for a one-year sentence.”

Amit Desai had represented Salman Khan for his bail hearing in 2015. The advocate had challenged a lower court’s order sentencing Salman to five years of rigorous imprisonment in the case. After Amit defended Salman in May 2015, the actor was granted bail in the case on a sum of Rs 30,000.

After A***n Khan's bail plea was rejected by the magistrate court on Friday, the next hearing was held in a special NDPS court yesterday (October 11). Amit Desai defended A***n Khan in court and asked for a hearing date on his bail plea.
