The judge asked the assassin of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, "Why did you kill President Sadat?"

The assassin replied, "Because he was secular."

The judge immediately asked the next question, "What does secular mean?"

The assassin said, "I don't know."

The judge asked the attacker who tried to stab the late Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, "Why did you stab Naguib?"

The terrorist replied, "Because he wrote the anti-religious novel 'Children of Gebelawi'."

The judge showed interest, "Have you read the novel?"

The criminal replied, "No."

The judge asked the murderer of Egyptian writer Farag F**a, "Why did you kill Farag F**a?"

The assassin replied, "Because he had no faith."

The judge, curious to know more, asked, "How did you know he had no faith?"

The terrorist answered, "Everything is clear from reading his books."

The judge's curiosity increased, "In which of his books did you find proof of his lack of faith?"

The assassin admitted, "I don't know the name of the book. I didn't read any of it."

The judge was surprised, "Why didn't you read it?"

The assassin said, "I cannot read or write."

Hatred never spreads through knowledge. Hatred spreads through ignorance. Society pays the price of ignorance by keeping people ignorant.

On April 22, 2025, a devastating terrorist attack occurred in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians, predominantly Hindu tourists. This incident stands as one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The Attack

Five armed militants, reportedly affiliated with the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, infiltrated the tourist area, which is accessible only by foot or horseback and lacked significant security presence. Disguised in military-style uniforms and armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s, the assailants targeted tourists by asking them to identify their religion. Those who identified as Hindus were shot at close range. Among the victims was a local Muslim pony ride operator who attempted to protect the tourists and was killed in the process.

Immediate Aftermath

The attack prompted widespread condemnation across India and internationally. Local residents and pony handlers played a crucial role in rescuing the injured, transporting them to nearby medical facilities. Gurudwaras in Kashmir opened their doors to shelter tourists fleeing the area. In response, Indian security forces launched a massive crackdown in nearby villages, detaining nearly 2,000 individuals and demolishing homes of suspected militants.

Political and Diplomatic Repercussions

The Indian government accused Pakistan of supporting the militants, leading to heightened tensions between the two countries. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani diplomats, and closed its borders. Pakistan denied involvement and retaliated by suspending the Simla Agreement, restricting trade, and closing its airspace to Indian flights. Skirmishes along the Line of Control intensified, raising fears of a larger conflict.

Reactions and Condemnations

Prominent Muslim organizations in India, including the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that terrorism contradicts the principles of Islam. They highlighted the unity among communities, noting that local Muslims risked their lives to save Hindu tourists during the attack.

Impact on Tourism and Local Sentiments

The attack severely impacted the tourism industry in Kashmir, with over a million cancellations reported. Authorities closed 48 of the region’s 87 government-authorized tourist resorts as a precautionary measure. Despite the tragedy, many Kashmiris expressed grief and condemned the violence, participating in protests and observing shutdowns in solidarity with the victims.

This brutal incident underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring security and fostering communal harmony in the region.

The terms Bare Act and Section are commonly used in legal studies and practice, but they refer to different things.

1. Bare Act
• A Bare Act is the official, unannotated text of a law as enacted by the legislature.
• It contains the law’s provisions without any commentary, explanation, or judicial interpretations.
• It is the raw version of the law, typically published by the government.
• Example: The Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC) as officially published is a Bare Act.

2. Section
• A Section is a specific provision or clause within a Bare Act.
• Laws are divided into sections, each of which covers a particular rule, offense, procedure, or right.
• Each section is numbered and forms part of the overall Act.
• Example:
• Section 302 of IPC defines the punishment for murder.
• Section 420 of IPC deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property

Yes, Rekha Gupta becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi can be seen as a step toward women’s empowerment, especially in Indian politics, where leadership roles have traditionally been male-dominated. She is the fourth woman to hold this position in Delhi, and her appointment signals a growing acceptance of female leaders in high offices.

However, true empowerment goes beyond just holding a position. It depends on how her leadership impacts policies for women’s safety, education, employment, and overall societal change. If her tenure brings about tangible improvements in gender equality and women’s welfare, it would mark a significant step in empowerment.

Do you think her appointment is a real victory for women’s representation, or do you see it as more of a political move?
