India declined to vote in the appointment of a United Nations committee to oversee the rights of LGBT people all over the world.

In the wake of the June 12 Orlando Massacre, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) passed a resolution appointing an independent committee to ensure that LGBT people across the world do not face discrimination.

While all European and Latin American countries accepted the resolution, India, in the company of China, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan either voted against the resolution or abstained.

The Janata Dal trounced the Congress in the 1977 elections and Raj Narain, the man with the courage to file for action, that began India's darkest period, beat Indira Gandhi in her constituency of Rae Bareilly.

It all began with a case.
