131st constitutional amendment was defeated in Lok sabha falling well short on 2/3 majority in Lok sabha. The amendment was (a) on reservation of seats for women in parliament and state Assemblies. (b) To expand the size of Lok sabha and (c) to undertake fresh delimitation of constituencies.

At the time of British settlement in India law was in a bad shape. Ancient Indian law, though progressive & comprehensive, had been eclipsed during the Muslim period and, its growth stopped. Inspite of this fact, Hindus were governed by their own law in most of the civil matters & Muslims by their own. Law of crimes, procedure & evidence was Mohammedan law w/c applied to all.
