Adultery is no longer a crime in India—the Supreme Court decriminalised it in 2018.
But that doesn’t mean it’s consequence-free: adultery can still have civil/matrimonial consequences, and in some situations a spouse may even try a civil damages claim against the “third person” alleging “alienation of affection” (it’s fact-specific and not a guaranteed outcome).
