Today is celebrated as Empathy Day, this day aims to bring the focus back to building on our ability to understand and experience another’s feelings and be able to look at things from their perspective. Empathy is an important aspect of emotional intelligence and as a tool must be brought into all spheres of our lives and communities, especially when we work with children and young people – creating spaces for them to learn more about empathy, experience it and put it to action.

In this fast-paced life, we must also mindfully invite Empathy into our organisational frameworks, attitudes and interactions. This could look like being aware of and sensitive to colleagues unique perspectives, journeys, emotions and workstyles. Bringing in empathy can support diversity, inclusion and belonging at work, ensuring that our policies, systems and practices are equitable.

What do you think empathy at work could look like? Comment below!

Today is World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, and this year the theme being spotlighted is "Together for a ".

We at Equilibrio Advisory are spotlighting a clip from the award-winning film Period. End of Sentence., a film that documents how the women of Hapur in rural India take charge of changing perceptions and realities around menstruation in their lives and communities.

Here, we witness what challenges emerge for menstruating persons, and their impact could look like. Some of the challenges faced by menstruating persons include lack of access to hygiene products as well as clean and secure spaces to for menstruating persons to change or attend to their needs, lack of awareness, physical changes to the body, the experience of pain, presence of stigma and shame associated with menstruation, etc. These challenges can impede women’s growth, and contribute to dropouts in schools and even the workforce.

Today we must ask ourselves, in our own context, are we working to create a period friendly world?

Do the menstruating persons in our workplaces and communities still face such challenges?

What more can we do to bridge the gaps to access and awareness?

We're taking a Firm-wide pause for our week off between 23rd March 2024 – 31st March 2024.

At Equilibrio LLP, we are committed towards acknowledging the mental health needs of all our associates and creating space to facilitate the body and mind’s need for rest. This practice, running successfully since 2020, allows our team to repair their wells of creativity and return to work, with renewed vigour.

During this period, there will be no activity on our social media platforms.

As we retreat to allow our minds and bodies to recharge, we leave you with space to reflect on how you can bring repose and rhythmic breaks into your work flow.

How is Balbir Pasha doing these days?

In 2002, the Population Services International (PSI) had shared a billboard campaign that asked "Balbir Pasha Ko AIDS Hoga Kya?" (Will get AIDS?). The communities were buzzing with conversations about who Balbir Pasha is, and why should one worry about Balbir Pasha’s status.

The campaign had been a success at sparking conversations about , which was PSI’s goal. The AD campaign that followed led to Balbir Pasha becoming a household name where one could discuss without shame or apprehension. These were conversations to be had, crucially and critically.

This year's theme, "Let Communities Lead," echoes Balbir Pasha's ethos, recognizing the pivotal role communities play in shaping the global response to HIV. Balbir Pasha became an iconic symbol of hope for all folks living with AIDS in the nation.

Folks who have waited for conversations about HIV AIDS becoming more normalised and common found solace for a brief moment in history with Balbir Pasha.

Today, we honour and remember those who we have lost due to this epidemic, those whose spirit was broken long before their bodies were. We stand in solidarity with all the folks who are living with HIV, and those we have lost because of neglect of the society we live in.

Abhimanyu now a man in his greying years watching the news that is covering this new movement called the “ ” movement where women are coming forward with their experiences of being sexually assaulted. Abhimanyu expresses his disgust, and later, on a call with his son warns him about women “these days” and how they’re all out to get men.

We are almost a week into , and closer to the 10th Anniversary of the POSH Act! To celebrate and observe, we are following Abhimanyu’s life as he navigates the complexities of social conditioning and psychological messaging that denigrate and objectifies women.

It is hard to let go of the past, especially when the relics of the past like antiquated ideas regarding women are still prevalent. But one can only hope the newer generations can make their own decisions about bodily autonomy, consent and respect. It takes a village, let’s invest in our children so we can have adults who are empathetic and kind.

A middle-aged man on a date, Abhimanyu’s ideas and attitude about women is unchanged. In fact he listens to Mandrew Taint who is a staunch Men’s Rights Activist who regularly demonises and objectifies women on the way to his dates to “pump himself up”. On the date Abhimanyu analyses the women, hoping one of them will meet Mandrew Taint’s requirements for a “high-value woman”.

Equilibrio Advisory LLP, in collaboration with Men Against Violence & Abuse (MAVA), are proud to present a series of posters on the male gaze and men’s .

These posters are our attempt to highlight how boys and are conditioned throughout their lives by various stakeholders in their life. This conditioning is strong, pervasive and institutional as well. Insidious acts of sexism and upholding of the patriarchy doesn’t just affect women and other marginalized genders but it affects men despite being the benefactors of gender privilege.

The series is meant to spark conversations about the persistent need to fit into the mold of perfect manhood, and how the uni-dimensional modes of being a “real” man hamper growth, stagnate creativity and can foment into an immoral and unempathetic phase. For example, the “men’s rights movement”, one that had great potential to truly address men’s issues, is now considered an extremist movement that very frequently targets marginalized people.

As you are engaging with these posters, we encourage you to reflect on the systemic, institutional and long-established apparatuses of the Patriarchy and toxic masculinity. We cannot liberate ourselves by only unlearning these concepts, we must, and we shall depend on our community to call us in when we need to be held accountable, when we need extra support to respond intentionally rather than react, and to create space for joy and tenderness amidst the chaos of today’s world to become human again as part of the larger collective.
