Indian companies are required to hold AGMs with six months of closure of the financial year, which means before September 30 for those have March 31 as year-end. Amid the pandemic crisis, Institute of Company Secretaries of India had made representation seeking extension in AGM date to December 31. However, MCA has clarified that blanket extension will not be granted, but each company will have to submit a request in Form GNL-1 and get their individual approval. Companies need not wait for the last date of Sep 29 stipulated by MCA to file the request as the approval if denied would culminate into a long drawn process of compounding penalty for the companies.
