A.Y. 2017-18 ended hurdle-free with relatively less last minute return filing activities than expected. At 11.45 PM on 31st March, return was uploaded without any glitch. Thanks to the IT Department and its maintenance team for keeping the traffic smooth and constant notification for compliance well before the due date. It seems assesses are taking serious view as far as Income Tax Return filing is concerned.
As of date however, the new ITRs were not made available on the official webste to start with the return filing for the next F.Y., i.e., 2018-19. We all hope the next year's return filing will be as smooth as the year we just completed.
While filing returns we noticed a few things that could be be made much easier with a little tinkering from the Income Tax IT maintenance department. For example, when someone is validating a particular page of a return the most usual notification that comes up is that, "you have not filled out a particular field" but after checking that, the cursor should automatically take you to that field to make the necessary correction, but it doesn't. Another very disturbing feature is that the mandatory fields, for example " payments made to non-residents" is not highlighted. This is so important to check that without it the return is incomplete and you will not be able to file it. And it takes at least a couple of minutes before you can locate the particular cell.
We wish those minor corrections will be taken care of this year and that may be the reason for not making the ITRs available immediately.
