A Zero FIR is a First Information Report (FIR) that can be filed at any police station, regardless of the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. It's used for serious cognizable offenses like r**e or murder to prevent victims from facing delays or being turned away by police due to jurisdictional issues. The FIR is initially assigned the number '0' and is later transferred to the police station with the proper jurisdiction to conduct the investigation.
