ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പരിസ്ഥിതി മേധാവിയും യു.എന്‍.ഇ.പി എക്‌സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് ഡയറക്ടറുമായ എറിക് സോല്‍ഹെം ശനിയാഴ്ച രാവിലെ സിയാല്‍ സന്ദര്‍ശിക്കും . രാവിലെ 11 മണിക്ക് സിയാലിന്റെ സൗരോര്‍ജ പ്ലാന്റുകള്‍ സന്ദര്‍ശിച്ച ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം മാധ്യമങ്ങളോട് സംസാരിക്കും.
സമ്പൂര്‍ണമായും സൗരോര്‍ജത്താല്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന കൊച്ചി വിമാനത്താവളം പല രാജ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കും മാതൃകയാണെന്ന് എറിക് സോല്‍ഹെം പറഞ്ഞു. ' മാനവീയ വികസനത്തില്‍ ഏറെക്കാലമായ് മുിലാണ് കേരളം. പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണത്തില്‍ കേരളം ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ മാതൃകകള്‍ പരീക്ഷിക്കുുണ്ട്. സമ്പൂര്‍ണമായും സൗരോര്‍ജത്താല്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന ആദ്യത്തെ വിമാനത്താവളം അതിലൊന്നാണ്.

പരിസ്ഥിതി സൗഹാര്‍ദവും സുസ്ഥിരവും ചെലവുകുറഞ്ഞതുമായ ഈ വികസന മാതൃക പിന്തുടരാന്‍ മറ്റുസ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും രാജ്യങ്ങളും മുന്‍കൈ എടുക്കണമെന്ന് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭ താല്‍പ്പര്യപ്പെട്ടു 'എറിക് സോല്‍ഹെം പറഞ്ഞു.
2015 മുതല്‍ സമ്പൂര്‍ണമായും സൗരോര്‍ജത്താല്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന കൊച്ചി വിമാനത്താവളത്തിന്റെ ഹരിത സംരംഭത്തിന് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭ നല്‍കുന്ന പ്രോത്സാഹനം അമൂല്യമാണെന്ന് സിയാല്‍ മാനേജിങ് ഡയറക്ടര്‍ വി.ജെ.കുര്യന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.' ഊര്‍ജ ദൗര്‍ലഭ്യം നേരിടു സാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ പാരമ്പ്യരേതര ഊര്‍ജ സ്രോതസ്സുകളെ ആശ്രയിക്കുന്ന സിയാലിന്റെപദ്ധതി ആഗോള തലത്തില്‍ അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. ലൈബീരിയ, ഘാന, ബുര്‍കിന ഫാസോ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ നിരവധി രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നും ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച അന്വേഷണം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇവയില്‍ ഘാനയിലെ മൂന്ന് വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങളില്‍ സൗരോര്‍ജ പ്ലാന്റുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കാന്‍ സിയാലുമായി ധാരണാപത്രം ഒപ്പുവച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. യു.എന്‍.പരിസ്ഥിതി മേധാവിയുടെ സന്ദര്‍ശനം സിയാലിന്റെ പദ്ധതിയ്ക്ക് കൂടുതല്‍ ശ്രദ്ധ നേടിത്തരുമൊണ് പ്രതീക്ഷ ''കുര്യന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

നിലവില്‍ എട്ടു പ്ലാന്റുകളില്‍ നിന്നായി ഒന്നേകാൽ ലക്ഷം യൂണിറ്റോളം വൈദ്യുതി പ്രതിദിനം സിയാലിന് ലഭിക്കുുണ്ട്. 30 മെഗാവാട്ടാണ് മൊത്തം സ്ഥാപിതശേഷി. ഇത് ജൂലായ് അവസാനത്തോടെ 40 മെഗാവാട്ടായി ഉയരും. അതിനുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ നടുന്നുവരുുന്നു. സിയാല്‍ സന്ദര്‍ശനത്തിന് ശേഷം എറിക് സോല്‍ഹെം മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പിണറായി വിജയനുമായി ചര്‍ച്ച നടത്തും. രാത്രി എട്ടിന് മടങ്ങും.

UN Environment Global Chief Erik Solheim visits green initiatives in Kerala.

Mr. Solheim will also use the opportunity to learn more about other green initiatives in India’s Southern state. He will interact with school students participating in the Student’s Empowerment for Environmental Development (SEED)programme. The programme reaches out to over 3 million students to create awareness on environmental degradation and create a “green” culture in the state.
Ahead of his first visit to the state, Mr. Solheim said, “Kerala has long be a leader in human development and I am excited to be visiting the state and learning more about environmental innovation. Many countries in the world have much to learn from the state’s experiences with the first fully-solar powered airport in the world, a clear example that being environment-friendly is now a conscious business decision for many.”

CIAL managing Director V.J.Kurian Said that this high profile visit will give fillip to CIAL’s green initiatives. “ CIAL has become the first airport in the world ;fully powered by solar energy in 2015. The company has already signed MOU with Ghana for setting up solar power plants in three airports. Countries like Liberia, Burkina Faso have expressed their interests for bringing in CIAL’s consultancy for similar projects and the discussions are going on. We are delighted and looking forward for Erik’s Visit “ – Kurian added.

At present CIAL is producing 0.125 million units of power a day from its eight power plants with a total installation capacity of 30 MWp.This will be scaled up to 40 MWp by July 2018. Mr. Solheim will call on the Honourable Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and discuss areas of collaboration with UN Environment.
