The Supreme Court of India delivered several significant rulings today, November 25, 2024:
Dismissal of Petitions on Preamble: The Court dismissed a series of petitions challenging the inclusion of the terms "socialist" and "secular" in the Preamble of the Constitution, reaffirming their constitutional validity23.

Quashing of Criminal Case: In a notable decision, the Supreme Court quashed a criminal case against a man accused of repeatedly ra**ng a woman under the false pretext of marriage. The Court emphasized that a mere breakup of a consensual relationship cannot be criminalized23.

Restoration of Proceedings Against MLA: The Supreme Court directed the restoration of criminal proceedings against Kerala MLA Antony Raju in an evidence tampering case, clarifying that the bar on cognizance under Section 195(1)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Code does not apply when proceedings are initiated by judicial order23.

Court Receiver Appointment Standards: The Court ruled that simply establishing a prima facie case is insufficient for appointing a court receiver; compelling reasons must be demonstrated to justify such an appointment23.

State’s Claim on Adverse Possession: The Supreme Court reiterated that the state cannot claim adverse possession over private property, emphasizing the protection of citizens' constitutional rights against state appropriation23.

AN ADVOCATE (via-wikipedia)

A lawyer or attorney is a person who practices law, as an advocate, attorney, attorney at law, barrister, barrister-at-law, bar-at-law, counsel, counselor, counsellor, counselor at law, or solicitor, but not as a paralegal or charter executive secretary. Working as a lawyer involves the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific individualized problems, or to advance the interests of those who hire lawyers to perform legal services.

The role of the lawyer varies greatly across legal jurisdictions, and so it can be treated here in only the most general terms
