The Legal Aid and Awareness Committee (LAAC) of National Law University, Jodhpur is conducting a webinar on cyber security. We will have with us Mr. Raksh*t Tandon, who is Cyber Security Expert, as our honourable speaker who would enlighten us with types of cyber crimes and how can we win over such crimes.

Due to the anonymous nature of the Internet, it is possible to engage in a variety of disturbing activities with impunity and people with intelligence, have been grossly misusing this aspect of the Internet to perpetuate these activities in cyberspace. This has given birth to a gamut of new age offences.

Cyber security is the application of technologies, processes and controls to protect systems, networks, programs, devices and data from cyber-attacks. It aims to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks and protect against the unauthorised exploitation of systems, networks and technologies.

The information given to the police officer and reduced into the writing as required by section 154 of CrPC is called as First Information Report. It is on the basis of this report that investigation of cognizable offences commences under this section.

Most people dread going to the police station when a crime takes place. There is usually a feeling that registering a complaint is a tedious process or the police will not be cooperative. But, that shouldn't stop anybody from taking action against a crime. E-FIRs can be very convenient tools for this purpose.

In this video, LAAC brings forth a simplified explanation on how to file an online FIR.

Step 1: Visiting the concerned/local police's official website is the first step when it comes to filing an online FIR, for example https://www.police.rajasthan.gov.in
Step 2: After opening the website, click on the services option.
Step 3: After clicking the services option, many drop-down menus will start appearing. Select the category of cases according to the nature of your case.
Step 4: After selecting the category, you will be taken to a new page where you will fill the details of your case which may require information like
* Complainant’s Name
* Father’s/Mother’s Name
* Complainant’s Address
* Complainant’s Mobile number
* Complainant’s email ID
* Place where the incident took place
* Date of incident
* Time of the incident
* Description of the case, or any other details.

Step 5: Make sure you recheck all your articles before submitting it and then enter the captcha code on the form.
Step 6: Once all these steps are done, you will receive the details of your report on your email id and print out the FIR for future reference.
