The Centre for Litigation Studies ("CLiS") conducted its first online workshop for this semester on "Filing a Civil Suit" by Mr. Shohit Chaudhry (NLUJ Alumnus, 2008 and AoR before SC of India).

The session threw lights on the procedure involved throughout the life-cycle of a civil suit and the best practices in pursuing civil litigation. It helped the students in getting a hands-on experience in learning finer nuances of drafting and provide them with practical knowledge of how the judicial process works.

We witnessed a good participation from the students and hope it to be immense next time.

Intra-University Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Competition 2021

We are elated to announce that the Legal Aid and Awareness Committee along with the Centre for Litigation Studies, will be conducting the 4th Intra-University Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Competition 2021 on April 17- 18th, 2021 virtually.

PIL is one of the most indispensable parts of the Indian legal system. A competition like this aims at providing opportunities for the young legal minds to understand the practical dynamics of PIL and to think critically. The competition fosters a deep sense of public spirit among participants, which in the future we hope will go beyond their college activities and into the legal world.

To kick-start this year’s edition with full enthusiasm, we have with us Mr. Swapnil Tripathi who shares some words of wisdom from his own experience of filing PIL. He is a 2019 batch alumnus of our college and is presently studying Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford. During his time as a student at our College, he filed a PIL before the Supreme Court against prohibition of Intern's entry in the Supreme Court on miscellaneous days, and has argued his own case before the court leading to the court allowing live streaming of Court proceedings.

In this video, he gives an insight into the importance of PIL and how it enables practical application of legal principles. Watch till the end for some wise words of caveat he has for all our participants!
