Forum For A Better Hyderabad was formed under the banner of Hyderabad Bachao (Save Hyderabad), when some of the non-government organizations and citizens, concerned about environmental and developmental issues in and around Hyderabad city, came together in 24th June 2000. The main focus of the Forum will be on advocacy of sustainable development, by highlighting the economic and ecological impacts

of environmental problems likely to be created by the developmental activities being undertaken without proper appraisal and assessment. All those associated with the Forum have already a record of their own in rousing public awareness on many of the environmental issues faced in the twin cities. They have also had some success in certain areas through systematic efforts to convince the authorities or even approaching the Courts of Law. But there was a need to speak in one voice on some major issues, while keeping up the individual initiatives.

Every other day you read in the papers of the Government trying to demolish Heritage buildings and when PIL have been filed in the High Court it wants to abolish the Heritage Notification itself.
The Forum had filed a case in the Supreme Court against the previous Government intention of converting 28 acres of Hussain Sagar lake into a YSR memorial for the late chief minister. Now the present Govt wants to empty the Hussain Sagar and after that God alone knows the future plans.
Instead of taking action against the polluting industries and stopping polluting material from being generated the Govt, is diverting the polluting effluents which were flowing into the Hussain Sagar directly into the river Moosi.
Buildings constructed violating the sanctioned plans are to be regularised. Instead of breaking down all illegal structures against which Court orders have been passed and taking action against those who have not regularised their structures that were constructed violating the sanctioned plans before the last BPS.
