E-filing: ATM-based validation facility activated.

The Income Tax department has launched an ATM-based validation system for filing e-ITRs by taxpayers as part of its measure to enhance the paperless regime of filing the annual IT returns.

"Now, Electronic Verification Code (EVC) can be generated by pre-validating your Automated Teller Machine (ATM) provided by the bank where a taxpayer has an account. While SBI has activated the facility beginning yesterday, other banks will follow soon," a senior IT official said.

Last month, the department had launched the bank account based validation facility in this regard for those who have not availed internet banking facility.

The new facility is available on the official e-filing portal of the department- http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ and will work by using the One Time Password (OTP) verification system as activated by the department last year by using the Aadhaar number.

These measures are used to validate the e-ITR so that the taxpayer does not take the trouble of sending the paper-based ITR-V by post to the Bengaluru-based Central Processing Centre (CPC) for final resolution and processing.

"The dynamic effort wrt digitization. I have great experience over last 6 years with this world class website which is so transparent that every Indian can be proud of it. Now Running from here to there is not required to get solution of our problem wrt to Income Tax. Thanks to all who are involved…

GOOGLE TAX APPLICABLE FROM TODAY!
The Finance Minister had in his budget introduced the equalisation levy earlier this year. Popularly known as Google tax, this equalisation levy (@ 6%) will come into force from today, June 1 2016 onwards. Under the current structure it will only apply to payments for online advertisements made by Indian business entities to non-residents (such as Google, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook etc.) where the aggregate annual payment to the non-resident exceeds Rs 1 lakh. Only B2B transactions attract this levy. While only online advertisements are taxable now, the finance ministry is planning to include more services through notification in the coming months.
However, where the non-resident service provider has a permanent established place of business in India and the bill is raised by such Indian office, the equalisation levy will not have to be deducted by the Indian payer.
It may be noted that amid stiff opposition from foreign service providers this tax was introduced and with this India becomes the first country in the world to tax digital services by applying the equalisation levy.
