At least 17 people were killed and 18 injured in a road accident near Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, when a bus collided with a tempo loader carrying passengers. The accident occurred due to slippery roads from rain. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief, with the PM announcing ₹2 lakh ex-gratia for the deceased's families and ₹50,000 for the injured. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also offered condolences and directed officials to provide the best treatment for the injured. Several victims were from Semra village in Agra.

India's 2nd nuclear missile submarine to be commissioned by Rajnath Singh

> Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commission India’s second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Arighat (S-3), in Visakhapatnam, bolstering the country's nuclear triad and second-strike capability. This advanced 6,000-tonne SSBN, armed with K-15 nuclear ballistic missiles, will patrol the Indo-Pacific under India’s strategic command. India’s third SSBN, INS Aridaman (S-4), is set for commissioning next year, with a fourth, S-4*, to follow. The Navy also seeks approval for two nuclear-powered, conventionally armed submarines (SSNs), further enhancing India's strategic deterrence in the region.

> ISRO will launch the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV)-D3/EOS-08 Mission on August 16 at 9:17 am. This final developmental flight of the SSLV will carry the EOS-08 satellite, which includes an Electro Optical Infrared Payload, a Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry payload, and a SiC UV Dosimeter. Positioned in a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at 475 km, EOS-08 aims to advance environmental monitoring, disaster management, and technological demonstration. The satellite features advanced components like an Integrated Avionics system and miniaturized design elements. It has a planned mission life of one year.
