No change in personal Income Tax slabs

* House rent deduction raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000

oversee creation of fresh liability using retro tax law

* Corporate tax for new manufacturing units fixed at 25%

* Clean energy cess increased from Rs 200/ton to 400/ton on

EPF tax withdrawn: After FM Arun Jaitley announced the rollback in Parliament, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said he was satisfied over the Narendra Modi government’s decision – the salaried class had protested the initial announcement and various trade unions and other lobbies had picked up on the issue. With the protests likely to reach the streets, NDA government has opted to junk the Employees Provident Fund proposal in Budget 2016.

“Finally, the government was forced to listen to the people and roll back the patently unfair tax on EPF. But the attempt to tax the safety net of millions of hard-working middle class ppl was morally wrong and shows this govt’s anti-ppl mindset,” Gandhi tweeted on his official Twitter account.

“I felt the middle-class people were being hurt by the government; so, I decided to put some pressure on the government,” Rahul Gandhi later told media persons

Arun Jaitley: The government has been under fire on the issue. Opposition wants names of defaulters to to be made public, which was not possible as it would alert them which could be harmful for the case. Revealing names was not an answer as the cases are being filled against the defaulter, and the moment a case is registered everything about the person becomes public.
