Genuine temporary entrant

The genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement is an integrity measure to ensure that the student visa programme is used as intended and not as a way for international students to maintain ongoing residency in Australia.

The GTE requirement applies to all student visa applicants. The officer assessing the visa application considers whether the individual circumstances of the student indicates that their intention is for a temporary stay in Australia.
You must satisfy us that you have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.
Student visa applicants should provide evidence of meeting the GTE requirement in their application form. This must include a statement in response to the question in the form and/or documentation to support claims made in the statement such as evidence of employment or a copy of educational qualifications.

The GTE requirement provides a useful way to help identify those applicants who are using the student visa programme for motives other than gaining a quality education. The GTE requirement is not designed to exclude those students who, after studying in Australia, go on to develop the skills required by the Australian labour market and apply to obtain permanent residency.

Macquarie University has announced scholarships valued at more than $1.8 million for outstanding students in India. These new scholarships will focus on support and opportunities for postgraduate female students and undergraduate students across all courses.
The Macquarie International Women’s Scholarship for postgraduate female students will enable women in India to achieve their career goals by improving the affordability of acquiring an internationally renowned Masters degree from Macquarie. The scholarship will provide for up to $11,000 in tuition fees for the full duration of the course.
The Macquarie University Undergraduate Scholarship is being offered to applicants applying for undergraduate degrees and provides for up to $17,000 in tuition fees for the full duration of the course for academic session commencing in 2017.

Public Interest Criterion 4020

PIC 4020 enables refusal of a visa if an applicant provides a bogus document or information that is false or misleading in relation to their application, or if the Minister is not satisfied of an applicant’s identity.

If PIC 4020 is part of the criteria for the particular visa you have applied for you must satisfy PIC 4020 in order to be granted your visa.

skilled migration visas
business visas

family visas.

An extra 5 points for 'specialist educational qualifications' are now available under the Points Test for Subclass 189, Subclass 190 and Subclass 489 visas for applicants who have achieved Australian qualifications at a higher level in fields where shortages have been identified in Australia. The change is intended to enhance pathways to permanent residency for certain Australian graduates. To be entitled to points, the applicant must meet the requirements for award by an Australian educational institution of either a master degree by research or a doctoral degree (PhD), and, the degree must include study for at least 2 academic years at the institution in a field prescribed by legislative instrument.

Looking for help after your Australian visa rejection? If your visa has been rejected, you need to know what type of visa rejection it is.

Visa Rejection Because Of Invalid Application

This is perhaps the worst type of rejection because you may now be unlawful. Invalid applications mean that any bridging visa you thought you held (as a result of having made a valid application) does not exist.
