Supreme Court has observed

that marriage cannot exist on the idea of complete independence between husband and wife. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan made the remark while hearing a matrimonial dispute, noting that marriage is built on interdependence and shared responsibilities. The court said if someone wants to be fully independent, marriage is not the path, because no husband or wife can claim they don't rely on each other in a continuing relationship. This observation came as part of the court's larger message that companionship, compromise and cooperation are the foundation of married life, not absolute freedom!

Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced three contentious bills in the Lok Sabha under which the Prime Minister and chief ministers could be removed if they have been arrested for 30 consecutive days amid massive uproar and sloganeering. The bills were later sent to a joint committee of Parliament for scrutiny.

As the three bills were introduced - the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill - the opposition was up on its feet and tore copies of the legislation amid rowdy scenes.

The opposition has dubbed the legislation "draconian", claiming that it would be used by the government to destabilise opposition-ruled states through arbitrary arrests of ministers and chief ministers.

As Shah was proposing that the bills be sent to a joint committee for examination, Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee and other opposition leaders tore copies of the bills and threw them at the Home Minister. Visuals showed pieces of paper falling near the minister. However, Banerjee denied tearing copies of the bills.

There is currently no provision to remove a sitting minister if they are accused of a serious crime.

The Supreme Court recently ruled that notice issued by police under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) must be served through physical means alone as prescribed in the statute, and not via WhatsApp.

The Court rejected the use of WhatsApp or other electronic communication for serving such notices, holding that the mode of service has direct implications on an individual's liberty.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) lawmakers didn’t sign the notice, said a senior TMC leader.

At least 149 lawmakers from the Lok Sabha and 63 from the Rajya Sabha on Monday signed two separate impeachment notices against sitting high court judge, justice Yashwant Varma, kicking off the process to remove the judge who is battling allegations of corruption after wads of cash were recovered from his house in Delhi.
