SBIOA Chennai Circle STATE BANK OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION CHENNAI CIRCLE SBIOA CC Earlier the officers were sandwiched between the inhuman management and militant subordinates.

SBIOA- The Saviour and Protector of the Supervising and Managerial staff viz, officers of the State Bank of India was formed in 1965. It gave the officers freedom of association / assembly and expression under the rule of law, the indestructible building blocks of Trade Union Movement. The problems confronted by officers were loss of identity and dignity both as individual officials and as a group

; they were groaning under frustration and indignities, increasing responsibilities, more volume of work, unlimited hours of work, less and less leisure hours, inability to fulfill family and social obligations, falling standard of living due to retrograde compensation system, eroding wage differentials between themselves and their subordinates, and host of other inequities which made life miserable. There was no incentive to take higher responsibilities. A feeling of alienation / helplessness was looming large in the face of draconian, stringent and straightjacket service / conduct rules and regulations. The lack of opportunity for professional advancements, absence of job security, punitive action without any right of appeal and denial of principles of natural justice were the sum and substance of the sufferings of officers. The “Master & Servant” relationship and the management’s power to “hire and fire” even after the nationalization of State Bank of India in 1955 greatly demoralized officers.

An area meeting for branches in and around Ramanathapuram was successfully conducted. Officers from 18 branches participated actively and made the meeting vibrant.

Trichy module Regional Secretary, Com. Gurunathan along with Trichy module office bearers participated and addressed the gathering. Trichy RS patiently answered all queries raised by members. He commended the dedicated, member-centric efforts of our GS for the welfare of officers across the Circle. He also advised members to leave office on time, safeguard their health, and spend quality time with their families.

The meeting concluded on a high note with dinner and a renewed spirit of unity.

An area Meeting was successfully conducted at Mannargudi Centre for branches in and around Mannargudi. Officers from 12 branches actively participated in the meeting. Trichy RS Com. Gurunathan and Trichy module office bearers participated in the meeting and addressed the members.

A special highlight of the evening was the celebration of the birthdays of two officers along with all comrades, adding warmth and camaraderie to the gathering. The meeting concluded with dinner and a renewed spirit of unity.

With the thoughtful initiative of our beloved General Secretary, Com. A. Senthil Ramesh, a special Career Guidance & Counselling Meeting was conducted on 10.05.2026 (Sunday) for the benefit of our officer parents and their children studying in various schools.

Meeting with 2025 batch Probationary Officers at SBILD Nungambakkam

An introductory meeting with newly joined Probationary Officers (POs) was conducted at SBILD Nungambakkam with our Association office bearers. 23 newly joined POs participated. Com. Manikandan, Faculty, SBILD Nungambakkam welcomed the office bearers and POs. Chennai-I Regional Secretary Com. J. Ravikumar elaborated the Probationers about the importance of the Association, the importance of following the SOP of the Bank and unity. Deputy General Secretaries Com. Praveen.C and Com. Anbarasu R, explained the organizational structure of SBIOACC and important roles the Association plays from cradle to grave of a member. Com. Anbarasu explained the need to adapt to change, be flexible to the needs and demands of the Bank, encouraged the young officers to be change makers and take active part in the Association activities. Treasurer Com. Prakash stressed on the importance of member contribution, the need to be connected and the might of the Association.

President Com. Nithish Singh traced the history of the Association and the changing roles and requirements in the Banking industry. He elaborated on the need of the member's feedback and active participation. Deputy Treasurer Com. Vimaladevi participated in the introductory meeting and interacted with the members. RS Chennai-I Com. J. Ravikumar with his team of DRS and ZS attended the meeting and interacted with the members. Com. Vishwesh Varun, PO 2025, delivered the vote of thanks.

All the 23 participant POs were given SBIOA CC Diary 2026, Officers Service Condition Book and the membership forms.

A Member's meet was conducted for the Trichy zone at the Trichy main branch on 21.04.2026. More than 170 enthusiastic members participated in the meeting and actively deliberated.

Com. L. Velappan, AGM and RM, RBO-I Trichy, presided over the meeting.

Vice President Com. Lazer Jeyaprakash, General Secretary Com. A. Senthil Ramesh, Deputy General Secretaries Com. Anbarasu R, and Com. Praveen.C, Treasurer Com. Prakash and Deputy Treasurer Com. Vimala Devi attended the meeting. The Vice President stressed about the glorious demonstrations, agitation, work to rule and the call of UFBU. The General Secretary elaborated on the various member issues and informed the forum about the latest updates in the Banking industry and the Federation and Confederation.

Trichy Regional Secretary Com. Gurunathan along with his team of office bearers coordinated and arranged for the meeting. Com. Annapoorani, AGM SMEC Trichy, participated in the meet.

Com. Naveenbabu delivered the vote of thanks.
