The Rajasthan High Court has delivered a powerful reminder that no one stands above the rule of law. SHO Hamir Singh of Jodhpur’s Kudi Police Station has been suspended after video footage reportedly captured him manhandling a lawyer, pushing him, tearing his coat, and issuing threats. Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, the High Court ordered an IPS-level inquiry, directed the immediate suspension of the SHO, and placed the entire police station staff under line attachment.
This decisive action reaffirms that in a constitutional democracy, accountability binds everyone, whether in uniform or otherwise. Justice is upheld when institutions act without fear, favour, or prejudice.
And now, when the SHO himself will have to stand before the court in his own proceedings someday and he has to hire an advocate, he will truly understand the value of an Advocate, who fights relentlessly for the rights and dignity of every client.
