🚨 Kolkata Gangr**e Case: A Call for Justice ⚖️
Advocate Arindam Kanjilal, representing the survivor, has demanded a minimum 20-year jail term for the accused in the brutal South Calcutta Law College gangr**e case. But here’s the bigger question 👉 Why do r**e punishments in India still seem ineffective?
👨⚖️ Advocate Sachin Nayak explains:
🔹 Indian law prescribes 10 years to life for r**e under BNS, and 20 years minimum for gangr**e.
🔹 But despite strong laws, conviction rates remain below 30%.
🔹 Over 1.6 lakh r**e cases are pending in courts.
🔹 Only 5 rapists have ever been hanged in Indian legal history.
📅 Today, July 1, marks 1 year of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
But has it made any real difference in r**e laws?
Not really—no substantial changes for survivors, no new protections added.
📊 Why is r**e still the fastest-growing crime in India?
🧠 Because criminal psychology, delayed trials, social stigma, and political shielding still override legal reforms.
💬 As Advocate Sachin Nayak says:
> "It’s not the law to be blamed. It’s the mindset and the broken enforcement system that fails victims."
📢 Is it time for India to rethink how it deals with r**e cases?
Is harsher punishment enough? Or do we need faster justice, police accountability, and victim-centered reforms?
