1st National Lok Adalat Held across District Baramulla
Baramulla, March 14, 2026:

The 1st National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 was successfully held across District Baramulla, providing a platform for the amicable, speedy, and low-cost resolution of disputes.
The National Lok Adalat was formally inaugurated by Worthy Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Mr. Jawad Ahmad in the presence other judicial officers. The inaugural session was also attended by the President and members of the Bar Association, Baramulla, Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), Panel Lawyers, court staff, and Para-Legal Volunteers associated with DLSA Baramulla.
The primary objective of the National Lok Adalat was to ensure expeditious disposal of cases in a cost-effective and amicable manner while simultaneously reducing the pendency of cases in regular courts. A total of 738 cases were identified and listed for settlement, covering a wide range of disputes, including civil matters, compoundable criminal cases, family disputes, recovery matters, motor accident claim cases, and pre-litigation as well as post-litigation disputes across District Baramulla.
To facilitate smooth functioning, 10 benches were constituted—03 at District Headquarters Baramulla, 02 at Sopore, and 01 each at Pattan, Tangmarg, Boniyar, Uri and Dangiwacha. With the efforts of judicial officers, lawyers, and parties to the disputes, a total of, 608 cases were amicably settled, resulting in the realization of a settlement amount of Rs 17014329.
The successful conduct of this National Lok Adalat once again reaffirmed the commitment of the judiciary towards providing accessible, affordable, and speedy justice to the people. It highlighted the significance of Lok Adalats as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, ensuring justice in its true spirit.

****“Range Police Headquarters Baramulla Wraps Up Two-Day Training Programme on Prosecution & Conviction of UAPA and NDPS Cases” ****

Baramulla, 14th March 2026: The Range Police Headquarters Baramulla successfully concluded a two-day Range Level Training Programme on Prosecution and Conviction of UAPA and NDPS Cases at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines Baramulla. The programme was organized under the ongoing Capacity Building Initiative of J&K Police, aimed at enhancing the professional competencies of field officers across North Kashmir Range.
The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest DIG North Kashmir Range, Shri. Maqsood-ul-Zaman (IPS). The Valediction ceremony was attended by Addl. SP District Baramulla and other senior officers and officials from RPHQ Baramulla, reflecting the institutional importance of the initiative.

Baramulla, March 7:
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla organized an awareness programme on the rights and welfare of senior citizens in collaboration with the Community Hall VLCSC Wagoora. The programme aimed to sensitize the public, particularly elderly citizens, about the legal protections and welfare schemes available for them.
During the programme, the speakers highlighted the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, which ensures maintenance and protection of senior citizens. Participants were informed about their legal rights, mechanisms for seeking maintenance from children or relatives, and the role of Legal Services Authorities in providing free legal aid to eligible senior citizens.
The resource persons also emphasized the importance of respecting and caring for the elderly, and encouraged senior citizens to approach the Legal Services Institutions for assistance in case of neglect, abuse, or legal issues.
Members of the local community, senior citizens, and representatives of the Village Level Community Support Committee attended the programme and appreciated the initiative taken by DLSA Baramulla in spreading legal awareness among the public.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where participants shared their concerns and were guided about the remedies and support available through the Legal Services Authorities.

Baramulla, March 8:
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla today organized an awareness programme on the occasion of International Women’s Day in collaboration with ELITE Welfare Research Organisation. The programme was aimed at highlighting the importance of women empowerment, gender equality, and legal rights of women in society.

During the programme, speakers emphasized the role of women in nation building and stressed the need to create greater awareness about laws and schemes meant for the protection and welfare of women. The participants were sensitized about various legal provisions available for women, including protection from domestic violence, right to equality, and access to justice through the legal aid system.

The speakers also highlighted the role of the Legal Services Authorities in providing free legal aid to eligible women and ensuring that justice reaches the weaker and marginalized sections of society.

The programme witnessed active participation from members of ELITE Welfare Research Organisation, local residents, and other stakeholders. The participants appreciated the initiative and stressed the importance of conducting such awareness programmes to educate women about their legal rights and entitlements.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reiterating the commitment of the District Legal Services Authority Baramulla to continue organizing awareness programmes for the empowerment and welfare of women.

As per plan of action and calendar of activities issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority Baramulla in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Sopore, Tangmarg and the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police organized a Road Safety Awareness Programme in pursuance of the J&K Road Safety Policy with the objective of promoting safe driving practices and reducing road accidents.
The programme aimed at sensitizing the general public, drivers, students, and commuters about the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations. Officers from the Traffic Police Department highlighted the major causes of road accidents including over-speeding, rash driving, non-use of helmets and seat belts, and use of mobile phones while driving.
During the programme, participants were educated about the legal consequences of traffic violations and the importance of responsible road behaviour. Emphasis was laid on the collective responsibility of citizens in ensuring road safety.
