Foster Care State-Level Stakeholders Meeting

Under the auspices of BOSCO Bengaluru, a State-Level Foster Care Partners’ Meeting was organized at Don Bosco Child Labour Mission, Davangere, to strengthen family-based foster care for children in need of care and protection on May 19, 2026. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director BOSCO Bengaluru, emphasized that every child deserves the love, care, and security of a family, highlighting family-based foster care as a better support system for holistic child development than institutional care. Fr. Reji Jacob, Director of Don Bosco, Davangere, gave a brief introduction to the institution.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Mrs. Manjula M., Chairperson of the Davangere District Child Welfare Committee; Mrs. Kavitha T.N., District Child Protection Officer; Mr. Vinay, Child Protection Officer (Non-Institutional Care) from Haveri; and Mrs. Rekha, Child Protection Officer (Non-Institutional Care) from Chitradurga. They shared their valuable suggestions regarding the implementation of the foster care scheme, its challenges, and future strategies. A total of 51 foster care partners, staff members, and parents from Davangere, Haveri, and Chitradurga participated and resolved to work together to strengthen family-based care and protect children’s rights.

Exposure Visit to Government Observation Home, Madiwala

An exposure visit to the Government Observation Home, Madiwala was organized on May 18, 2026, for the Kolar Child Help Desk Team to understand the functioning of the institution and gain practical exposure to rehabilitation, counselling, educational support, and coordination within the Juvenile Justice system.

The visit focused on rehabilitation services for Children in Conflict with the law, stakeholder coordination, child protection mechanisms, and future collaborative activities. Participants learned about institutional care, counselling support, educational and recreational activities, and the importance of coordinated interventions for effective rehabilitation.

Interactive activities conducted by Fr. Varghese Pallipuram created a joyful atmosphere among the children and encouraged active participation. Team members appreciated the opportunity to interact with professionals and children directly and expressed interest in implementing similar child-friendly initiatives in their areas.

The programme was attended by Mrs. Leema, DCPO (Central), Superintendent, Observation Home, Mrs. Kavitha, Mrs. Amaidi Devaraj, Project In-charge, National School, Juvenile Advocacy team members, NIMHANS doctors, Madiwala police personnel, NGO representatives, and Kolar Help Desk staff.

Past Pupils’ Gathering

The BOSCO Family Restoration and After-Care Project organized a Past Pupils’ Gathering at BOSCO Mane on May 17, 2026, to create awareness about after-care support for care leavers. Mr. Adithya, APF motivated the participants to believe in their dreams, support one another, and participate in positive programs. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, explained the purpose of the meeting and highlighted the values, discipline, and life skills learned at Don Bosco. He also spoke about the challenges faced by care leavers and informed them about the planned Care Leaver Help Desk and government support schemes available after 18 years of age.

Fr. KG Joseph, Director, BOSCO Mane, explained the importance of education, vocational opportunities, responsibility, counselling, community awareness, documentation, welfare schemes, life skills, and talent development. Mr. Girish from the Neravu Team inspired the youth through his personal life story, stressing the value of education and hard work. The programme was successfully coordinated by Mr. Balaraj, Coordinator, BOSCO Family Restoration and After-Care Project, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Shivamallu, Coordinator, BOSCO Foster Care Project. Past pupils shared their success stories and achievements after leaving the institution. A total of 55 past pupils participated in the gathering.

Child-Friendly City Initiative among BOSCO Stakeholders and NGOs

BOSCO Bengaluru organized a capacity-building training programme at BOSCO Yuvodaya with the support of the Don Bosco YaR Forum Homelink Programme under the theme “Child Friendly City Initiative for Children & Young People” On May 16, 2026. The programme brought together stakeholders, coordinators, social workers, and NGO representatives to strengthen their understanding of child protection, adolescent development, governance, collaboration, and child-friendly practices.

The sessions focused on counselling skills, adolescent developmental changes, child protection laws and government schemes, BOSCO Homelink documentation, child-friendly environment planning, collaboration between Government and NGOs and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Resource persons included Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Fr. Joseph Dandavathi, Mr. Shivamallu, Mr. John Joshua Nirmal, Fr. Johnson, and Mr. Obalesh.

Participants appreciated the training's informative and practical nature and expressed their commitment to applying the lessons in their respective fields. The programme concluded with feedback sessions and a vote of thanks.

Awareness for the BMTC Officials

The Outreach Team of Bus Stand organized an awareness programme for BMTC officials in collaboration with the Child Safety Net (CSN) Project at the BMTC PRO Office on May 14, 2026. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among BMTC officials about the work and services of BOSCO Bengaluru.

Mr. Ramaswamy provided information on the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act 2015, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) procedures, children in conflict with law, and the role of BOSCO in supporting children in need on the streets. He also highlighted the services provided through the BOSCO Assistance Centre at bus stands.

Ms. Nayana and Mr. Natraj urged the officials to remain attentive towards children in need at bus stands and assured their continued support to BOSCO’s initiatives. Around 35 officials participated in the programme.

Exposure Visit to Bannerghatta Biological Park

The exposure visit to Bannerghatta Biological Park was successfully organized for the Study centres’ children and teachers on May 13, 2026. Children strolled around the park enjoying the greenery, watching different animals, birds, reptiles and insects. The children learnt about the wild and domestic animals, their habitats, the importance of protecting them in order to maintain the ecosystem and their responsibility as human beings in protecting the flora and fauna. The visit provided the children with an enjoyable learning experience and an opportunity to spend a day filled with fun, happiness, and recreation.

The programme was completed smoothly with the support and coordination of the BOSCO Bengaluru Management, Advocacy Team, and Bus Stand Team. Sixty-three children and five teachers were part of the outing.

Migrant Youth Sports Day

Migrants Help Desk Team organized a Migrant Youth Sports Day cricket tournament at Sumanahalli on May 12, 2026, with the objective of promoting leadership, training, teamwork, and interaction among migrant youth from different communities. The programme provided a platform for youth to come together, build relationships, and strengthen their confidence through sports activities.
The event created an atmosphere of enthusiasm, unity, and healthy competition among the participants. The programme was graced by Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, Executive Director, BOSCO Bengaluru, Fr. Anand, Director, BOSCO Sumanahalli and Mr. Abhi Surya, a Past Pupil who encouraged the youth and appreciated their active participation. The event was successfully conducted with the support of BOSCO Sumanahalli. A total of 49 youth participants took part in the tournament, forming four teams.

Foster Care Parents, Children Meeting and Outing

The Foster Care Team organized a Parents–Children Meeting and Outing at Ruppi’s Resort on May 6, 2026. The programme began with a silent prayer and self-introductions by the participants.

Fr. Varghese Pallipuram addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of family as a foundation for love, growth, learning, and belongingness. He also emphasized the role of foster parents in sacrifice, understanding, guidance, and community building.

The children participated in games and water rides, providing an opportunity for parents and children to relax, interact, and strengthen their bonding. Mr. Obalesh welcomed the gathering, and Mr. Raghavendra proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 39 parents and children participated in the programme.
