Canada invited 2,000 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence on September 14.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates with scores of at least 462. Invited candidates now have 60 days to apply for permanent residency. This draw comes later than expected, as this year IRCC has typically held a CEC draw after a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw. Usually, IRCC holds a PNP draw on Wednesdays, followed by a CEC draw on Thursday.

Paper applications will no longer be accepted as of January 26. Applications for the Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ or Quebec Experience Program) can be submitted online as of January 12 through the Arrima platform.

PEQ Applicants can therefore submit their application, pay the required fees and download the required documents through the platform.
Quebec has previously informed applicants that paper-based submissions may be used until January 25, 2021. After that date, it will be mandatory to submit all PEQ applications through an online process and the Quebec Ministry of Immigration will no longer accept any paper applications. While applicants to the Quebec Foreign Student Program have now been able to submit their applications through the platform since the spring of 2020, they will also be subject to the same mandatory online submission process as of January 26, 2021. https://bit.ly/2HG5uQ6

Canada welcomed around 15,000 new immigrants in a month for the third time in a row, according to the Canadian government.

The latest Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data shows that the country welcomed 15,300 new permanent residents in November 2020, roughly the same level as in October and September. While this figure is an improvement from previous months, immigration to Canada remains low due to the pandemic.

In a given month, Canada usually welcomes around 25,000-35,000 new immigrants. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen this figure fall significantly since Canada imposed travel restrictions in March 2020.
In the first 11 months of 2020, Canada welcomed 174,000 immigrants. On the balance of probabilities, Canada’s intake for all of 2020 will be below 200,000 new immigrants which would be the first time this has happened since 1999. By way of comparison, Canada welcomed over 341,000 new immigrants in 2019.

To date, June 2020 has proven to be the strongest month for Canadian immigration during the pandemic with the arrival of just over 19,000 new permanent residents. https://bit.ly/2HG5uQ6

Manitoba issued invitations to international student graduates and skilled workers both in the province and abroad.
Manitoba invited 272 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination on January 14, 2021.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) invited skilled workers and international graduates to apply to one of the following three immigration streams:
Skilled Workers in Manitoba,
International Education Stream,
Skilled Workers Overseas.

Here are the number of invitations, also known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), along with their required minimum Expression of Interest (EOI) scores:

Skilled Workers in Manitoba— 236 LAAs with a score of at least 461;
Skilled Workers Overseas— 7 LAAs with a score of at least 722; and
International Education Stream— 29 LAAs, no EOI score requirement.
Out of the 272 LAAs issued, 18 went to Express Entry candidates. The MPNP says they will refuse any of these candidates who do not have a valid Express Entry ID, a job seeker validation code, and verifiable experience in an occupation on Manitoba’s In-demand Occupations list. https://bit.ly/2HG5uQ6

Nova Scotia invited immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence through its Labour Market Priorities stream on January 19.

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) did not disclose how many invitations were issued in the draw.

The stream is linked with Express Entry. This means that those who received invitations must have a valid profile in the federal Express Entry system. The NSNP is able to select eligible candidates from the Express Entry Entry pool who meet provincial labour market needs.

In this draw, candidates must have a primary occupation as a financial officer – National Occupation Classification (NOC) code 1114. In previous draws, the stream has targeted programmers and media developers, automotive industry workers as well as nurses.

In order to receive an invitation, candidates must have received a Letter of Interest from the NSNP through Express Entry. Invited candidates must have also met the minimum work experience requirement for the Express Entry stream they are qualified for, and must have enough money to establish themselves in Nova Scotia, and pay the required fees. https://bit.ly/2HG5uQ6

Alberta invited eligible candidates with Express Entry profiles to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in the province’s latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on January 8.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) issued 50 invitations to candidates who may be eligible through the Alberta Express Entry Stream.
Invited candidates must have a valid Express Entry profile with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) requirement of at least 406.

Express Entry is the system that the federal Canadian government uses to manage permanent residence applications for the three federal immigration streams:

In order to be in the Express Entry pool, candidates need to qualify for one of these immigration streams. They are assessed based on multiple factors such as their age, education, work experience and language ability and are ranked according to the CRS.

The highest ranking candidates are then invited to apply for permanent residence through regular Express Entry draws. Candidates who receive a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 CRS points. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has provided immigration minister Marco Mendicino with a new mandate letter.

Immigration will remain central to Canada’s economy and society.
This was stressed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the new supplementary mandate letter he provided today to immigration minister Marco Mendicino.

The mandate letter is the most important policy document for Canada’s immigration department. It outlines the goals that Canada’s prime minister is asking the immigration minister and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to pursue during the government’s time in power.

The mandate letter defines key issues such as Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan, which new immigration programs for IRCC to create, improving IRCC’s application processing times, among other issues. The release of the mandate letter comes shortly after Canada announced a historic new 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan that will see it target over 400,000 immigrants per year, the highest in its history. https://bit.ly/2HG5uQ6
