On the 28th of July, CAMP Arbitration and Mediation Practice Pvt Ltd was given an opportunity to make a presentation before the Board Members of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The presentation was on CAMP, the types of cases mediated at CAMP, process of mediation and the advantages of this process.

The presentation was made by Ms Rukmani Menon, Executive Director of CAMP, and was well received by the audience who raised a lot of interesting queries.

The CAMP members present at the event were Tara Ollapally- Co-founder of CAMP, Brinda Uthaiah- HR Manager and Bhavna Arul- Mediation Associate.

Court cases can often be quite time consuming due to the rigidity of the process. The time spent at courts can also hinder us in terms of opportunities we miss due to the time lost. Often times, such disputes can be brought in for mediation.

Mediation as a process is far more quicker and flexible. It is additionally a legally recognized form of ADR where a third party neutral will help facilitate conversations in an unbiased manner. Therefore, the process not only helps save time, but also strengthens relationships.

Did you know you can try mediation even when you have an ongoing court case?

During litigation, if you feel there is a possibility of settlement between you and the other party, you can request the court to permit you to try mediation. The courts are supportive of the process and will allow for parties to settle by themselves. During this period, the court will pause all proceedings and allow parties to mediate.

A successful mediation settlement agreement can be filed before the court and the court will then pass a decree based on the same. However, if you are unable to settle, you can always go back to court and resume your case.

With increasing talks of the Mediation Bill, CAMP is delighted to witness and be a part of the Mediation Revolution happening in India.
Our Founder, Laila Ollapally, and our CEO, Gayathri B Kalia, along with many other friends of CAMP are a part of the committee formed by the Centre to draft rules and standards for mediation in India.
With the Centre's support towards promoting institutional mediation, mediation training and the use of ODR, we are sure to see a shift in the mindset of disputants towards a less adversarial and more collaborative process of dispute resolution.

The Law and Justice Ministry has constituted a working committee for the drafting of rules and standards for mediation in India under the chairmanship of former Law Secretary PK Malhotra.

A historic day at the CAMP Office where we officially set foot into the pool of community mediation.

Today the CAMP team was glad to host the team of Bangalore Apartments' Federation (BAF) in our office, where both teams came together and signed an MoU to take the true spirit of mediation to the grassroot levels, i.e. modern, diverse neighborhoods, where conflicts are often looked upon as small but cause major inconvenience and disputes over a period of time.

The event can indeed be summed up as "A small step for Mediation, a giant leap for Justice"
