LEGAL AND VOTER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ORGANISED BY THE LEGAL AID SOCIETY, FACULTY OF LAW, AMU ON 30.03.2024 AT NAGLA QILA
The Legal Aid Society, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, organised another “Legal & Voter Awareness Campaign” under the aegis of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, at Nagla Qila. The objective of the event was to promote awareness regarding voting rights and the processes involved therein, among disadvantaged demographics and to stimulate increased engagement and participation, specifically among the youth, in the democratic procedure leading up to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections slated for Friday, April 26th, 2024 for the constituency of Aligarh.
The campaign was successfully organised with the able guidance, support and active encouragement from Prof. (Dr.) M.Z.M. Nomani, Dean, Faculty of Law, AMU. The Legal Aid Society adopted a door-to-door campaigning strategy by dividing the team in members of two, who approached the local residents and engaged them in active conversation regarding voting rights including, but not limited to eligibility criteria for voting, the kinds of IDs that can be used for voting, the process for registering for voting and the documents required, procedure to make corrections in the existing electoral roll, and the complaint mechanism in case anyone faces discrimination while trying to vote. The awareness campaign also entailed a brief survey of the local residents to assess whether they have their important IDs made and updated in case of any errors, and whether the locals need any kind of legal counselling or assistance. The Legal Aid Society will provide assistance to these people in getting their IDs created.
The Legal Aid Society at Aligarh Muslim University’s Faculty of Law is committed to promoting legal awareness, maintaining social fairness, and promoting community involvement. The society strives to empower individuals by providing them with the necessary knowledge and resources to uphold their rights and actively engage in the democratic process through a range of initiatives and programmes.
