The Centre for AI and Law (CAIL) will focus on aspects of artificial intelligence (“AI”) and its legal aspects (“the Subject Matter”) including but not limited to: (i) various facets of AI and implications of law on AI in India; (ii) application of AI to legal informatics problem ; (iii) original research, exporting tools and techniques developed in the context
of such problems to AI in general; a

nd (iv) any other area that the Centre shall deem fit to focus upon, from time to time. For example, theories of legal decision making, especially models of argumentation,
have contributed to knowledge representation and reasoning; models of social organization based on norms have contributed to multi-agent systems; reasoning with legal cases has contributed to case-based reasoning; and the need to store and retrieve large amounts of textual data has resulted in contributions to conceptual information retrieval and intelligent databases.

Dear All,
We are pleased to share with you the first edition of the AI and Law Magazine for the month of January 2026, published by the Centre of AI and Law, Institute of Law, Nirma University.

This inaugural edition marks an important milestone for the Centre. It reflects our commitment to fostering rigorous, interdisciplinary engagement with the legal, regulatory, and policy dimensions of artificial intelligence. The magazine brings together thoughtful analyses, current developments, reviews, and reflections that we hope will contribute meaningfully to ongoing academic and professional discourse.

We place on record our sincere appreciation for the editorial team, our Faculty Advisors Dr. Taruna Jakhar, Dr. Amit Kumar Kashyap, and all those who contributed behind the scenes to the successful publication of this inaugural issue. The wait is over, here we open the curtains and introduce you to one of our knowledge partners Advanced Centre on Research Development and Training in Cyber Law and Forensics [ACRDTCLF], NLSIU Bangaluru.
ACRDTCLF was established at NLSIU, Bangalore on 25th October 2010 under the initial financial support of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications& Information Technology, Government of India.
The Centre aims to spread awareness and provide training to judicial officers, public prosecutors, judges, investigative agencies, cyber security personnel, Law Teachers, students and general public, of cyber law with essential emphasis on the technical issues so that there be better ways of prevention of misuse of the technology as well as better enforcement of related laws.
