I, Asim Jayantbhai Pandya, Aged 53, President of the Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association
1) CONTRIBUTION IN LAW REFORMS
-> Made constant efforts since year 2011 to bring transparency in the -appointment of judges in the superior courts.
-> Lodged a serious protest and “Open Letter” against certain judges having pro-government ideologies which was published in Times of India, Live Law and B
ar and Bench.
-> In the matter of conferment of designation of “Senior Advocate” under Section 16 of the Advocates’ Act, 1961 filed intervention application in Indira Jaising’s case and brought objectivity in the process of designation.
-> Was inducted as a member of the Sub-Committee of the Bar Council of India to examine Report No: 266 given by the Law Commission of India and actually submitted the report to the Bar Council of India on 29th January, 2018 suggesting law reforms pertaining to advocates.
-> Lead successful agitation in the High Court in coordination with Bar Council of Gujarat and prevented the enactment of law containing the draconian provisions recommended by the Law Commission of India.
2) THE OFFICE/POSTS HELD IN THE PAST AND CURRENTLY
-> Vice President of Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association for two terms.
-> President of Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association since 2016.
-> Has been recently elected uncontested as President of The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association for a term of two years.
3) ACHIEVEMENTS AS THE PRESIDENT OF GUJARAT HIGH COURT ADVOCATES’ ASSOCIATION
-> Collected Rs. 45 Lakhs as donations within a short period of 18 months.
-> Obtained Income Tax exemption Certificate under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act for the Association.
-> Got the Air Conditioned lunch room facility for Junior Lawyers by requesting to High Court to provide such a facility for juniors.
-> Got developed a website for the Association and Paid Wifi facility. Provided the facility of cafeteria for lawyers practicing in High Court.
4) CONTRIBUTIONS IN ACADEMICS AND OTHER LEGAL EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
-> Authored Five Law Books viz. Writs and Constitutional Remedies, Law of Bail, Contempt of Court Act, Rights of Arrested Persons and Investigation and Excise Law.
-> Delivering expert lectures in Gujarat Police Academy.
-> Delivering expert lectures in Gujarat Judicial Academy.
-> Delivering expert lectures in the Legal Seminars conducted by The Bar Council of Gujarat.
-> Delivering guest lecturers in Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), -> Nirma Law University, GLS Law University, and L.J. Law School.
-> Writing articles in Law Journals and invited to several talk shows on law subjects on TV.
