This is a consumer awareness post.
When a cheque deposited by you in your account given by your client/friend/business partner, etc. gets dishonoured on the pretext of "connectivity failure" then your bank cannot deduct any charges from your account under the reason "Other reasons-connectivity failure." Please let the bank manager know about the RBI circular dated 7 May 2013, which makes it very clear that "Bank can only levy charges in case of dishonour of cheques if the customer is at fault. If customer is not at fault, bank cannot levy any charges"
The Circular also lists various reasons wherein the account holder is not at fault and one of the reason shows is "Connectivity Failure"
Connectivity failure is failure of communication between payee bank and the payer bank, wherein internet is at play and the customer has no say in it.
Kindly educate yourself with various other reasons wherein customer is not at fault and even though bank has levied charges. Talk to your bank manager and show the circular, even then the amount so deducted is not credited you can approach RBI ombudsman or can file a case in consumer court.
