ANALYSIS & COMPARISON OF THE AUSTRALIAN MIGRATION PROGRAM
As we are facing challenging times in Immigration it’s important to analyse & understand the comparison of Migration Programs 2019/20 and 2020/21.
Whilst the Net Overseas Migration expected to be reduce by 50%, the actual Migration program remains the same in the financial year 2020/21.
Net Overseas Migration is the net gain or loss of population through immigration to Australia and emigration from Australia. Migration flows impact on issues such as Australia's labour supply, national income, housing availability and cultural diversity.
Net Overseas Migration is 'based on an international travelers’ duration of stay being in or out of Australia for 12 months or more over the 16 month period and is the difference between:
the number of incoming international travelers who stay in Australia for 12 months or more within 16 months, who are not currently counted within the population, and
the number of outgoing international travelers (Australian residents) who leave Australia for 12 months or more within 16 months
Migration Program is the annual Migration Intake under different categories. Notably, the Migration program planning levels for 2019/20 and 2020/21 remains the same. 160,000 for both years. However, the following changes being made for each categories.
Employer Sponsored being reduced from 30,000 to 22,000 with 26.7% reduction
Skill Independent being reduced from 16,652 to 6,500 with 61% reduction
Regional State & Employer nominated being reduced from 25,000 to 11,200 with 55% reduction
State nominated being reduced from 24,968 to 11,200 with 55% reduction
Business & Investment being increased from 6,862 to 13,500 with 96.7% increase
Global Talent being increased from 5,000 to 15,000 with 200% increase
Partner/Spouse being increased from 39.799 to 72,300 with 81.7% increase
Parent reduced from 7,371 to 4,500 with 38.9% reduction
When Net Overseas Migration being reduced by 50%, yet, the Migration Program remains the same means that there will be more opportunities for onshore applicants than overseas applicants. However, the significant reductions in Skill Independent, State Nominated, Regional Sponsored & Employer Sponsored visas will significant impact on both onshore and offshore applicants.
