The next time you are out walking your dog, this could happen....a couple who rescued two paintings from a skip while walking their dog have sold the artwork at auction for £16,000.
After hanging the pieces in their home for several years, the anonymous finders researched the artist and discovered they were original works by Louis Wain, a celebrated British artist renowned for his late 19th and early 20th-century cat depictions.
Wain, whose eccentric life was the subject of a 2021 biographical film starring Benedict Cumberbatch, frequently struggled financially during his lifetime and died in 1939. His work has since become highly influential and sought after by collectors, BBC reports.

According to Rogers Jones Auctioneers, while discovering high-value art amongst discarded rubbish is unusual, it is not entirely unprecedented. The auction house noted that all sellers must sign a contract confirming legal ownership of the items before they can proceed to public sale.

Animal lovers from all over are expected to descend on Castlebridge on Saturday, June 7, for a brand new festival in aid of the WSPCA Animal Rescue Centre.

"WagFest" is promising “something for everyone - from devoted dog lovers and proud pet owners to anyone looking for a fun-filled summer outing”.

The fledgling festival, taking place at Castlebridge Community Hall, will feature a whole host of attractions, including a dog show, fancy dress competitions for adults, children and dogs, live music, games, a variety of market stalls, both indoors and outdoors, and a super raffle with some great prizes.

Minister for culture, communications and sport, Patrick O’Donovan yesterday convened a Youth Forum on Online Safety to listen to the views of children and young people about their experiences online.
The Youth Forum was held in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, and involved approximately 100 participants aged between 10 and 17 years from across Ireland. The participants discussed key aspects of online safety across five themes:

➡Children’s and young people’s right to be heard, and their lived experiences online
➡Defining online safety through a child right’s lens
➡Children and young people as partners in designing safer digital spaces
➡Access, restrictions and the best interests of the child and young person
➡Equality, inclusion and diverse digital experiences

‘Have a word with your young people’ - Gardaí investigate closure of public toilet as vandals cause damage worth €1,200
The facility, located in The Shambles, was opened at the end of 2025 as part of a regeneration project where the entirely refurbished, public space has since become a popular setting for many in town. However, on Friday, May 15, the toilet had to be closed to the public as repairs need to be carried out items replaced due to a group of young people causing damage to it.
