Could this possibly mean that claims are not the cause of high insurance premiums?? It’s worth noting that in the UK, where compensation awards and correspondingly legal costs are lower, premiums are on a par with ours. The insurance industry have run a highly effective PR campaign for more than 20 years here, demonising claimants. Fraudulent claims damage us all, genuine claimants, insurance companies, insurance consumers and the legal profession (all of us by the way significant insurance consumers as well) but the very reason for insurance companies’ existence is to provide that level of protection that genuinely wronged or injured claimants are entitled to expect. They do not exist for the primary purpose of generating massive profits.
Insurance companies in this country could be facing multi-million euro fines from the European Union over claims motor insurers are operating a cartel.
