In the hills and hollers of Tennessee
nestles a town called Vardy. Home to the
notorious matron of Moonshiners – Big
Hayley Mullin’s, the mother of 18 children
weighed in at 50 stone. Hayley was no
stranger to law enforcement and legend
has it that when the ambitious deputy came
to Hayley’s hillside cabin to arrest her he
returned to his superior and lamented
“she was catchable but not fetchable”

Hayley died at the ripe old age of 76 and
some say she was buried in a piano as
there were no coffins big enough to
entomb this amusing legend.
