Last Friday, we were delighted to launch the 2026 Matheson Career First Programme, offering students a valuable insight into life at a leading, internationally-focused law firm.
The programme offers an immersive experience, beginning with an on-site insight day, followed by a one-week work experience placement in July, and concluding with a skills-based workshop in October.
Participants will develop key skills and gain a deeper understanding of our collaborative culture, working alongside our experienced, partner-led teams.
A key highlight was the launch of our Career First mentorship initiative. We were delighted to welcome Samuel Elliott and Christine Woods from Meta, who will act as mentors alongside a number of our trainee solicitors, supporting participants throughout the programme. The initiative was launched with a welcome and overview from partner, Sarah Jayne Hanna, followed by a mentor–mentee networking lunch.
Throughout the day, students heard from colleagues across the firm, including an opening welcome from partner, Orlaith Finan, an overview of Matheson’s history delivered by partner, Tara Doyle, and an introduction to our clients and how we work by associate director, Anna O’Grady. Students also took part in a legal research skills workshop led by our Knowledge Management team and a group project, presenting to a panel of solicitors.
A brilliant start to what promises to be an exciting and impactful journey. We look forward to supporting this talented group in the months ahead.
