This was a very difficult and sensitive case for all involved. Our client was charged when he was 18 with an allegation of r**e when he was 15 years old. We took Judicial Review proceedings which lead to a finding that there was blameworthy delay by the prosecution however the High Court ruled that the case should proceed.

When the matter came before the Central Criminal Court for trial, the judge directed the jury to acquit our client when the complainant left the country halfway through cross examination.

This was a very difficult and sensitive case for all.

The r**e trial of a Dublin man has collapsed after the complainant left on a ferry to England half way through her cross-examination.
