Given the extreme bad weather we are experiencing at the moment , I have set out a number of steps that you should do if you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident .

1. Call the Emergency Services and Gardai if necessary - 999
2. Move away from damaged vehicles to somewhere safe .
3. Exchange information with the other parties involved in the accident (names, addresses, telephone numbers, insurance information to include name of car insurance company and policy number .
4. Get the names and addresses of any witnesses to the accident .
5. Take pictures of the accident location and vehicles involved.
