🇮🇪 The Irish Motorway That Was Moved for the Fairies 🌿
In County Clare, during the late 1990s, plans were made to build the M18 motorway. Everything was ready, until locals warned that the road would cut through a sacred hawthorn tree near Latoon.
Folklorist Eddie Lenihan stepped in and explained that the lone tree was no ordinary bush, it was said to be a meeting point for Ireland’s fairy host, the ancient “Good People” who travel between fairy forts across the land.
Ignoring it, he warned, could bring bad luck and misfortune on everyone involved in the project.
So, in the end, the government changed the route of the motorway just to avoid touching the tree. And to this day, that lone hawthorn still stands, fenced off beside the road, untouched by man, respected by all.
Whether you believe in the fairies or not, in Ireland we’ve learned one thing, It’s better not to take chances with the Good People. ☘️
