Apa Kabar! There is more to Indonesian cuisine than Nasi Goreng. Yep, we know, right?
There is so much to Indonesian food that narrowing it down to a Top 5 Must Eat list is nearly inconceivable, but we will try.
Here is a list of the top Indonesian foods to taste if you're ever in Indonesia. It's by no means complete, but we'll do our best to keep it open and debatable.

#1 Satay from Indonesia
Satay is grilled meat on skewers over coals. These succulent skewers are typically served with rice cakes (ketupat) and a dollop of peanut sauce. It's an Indonesian delicacy that originated with street sellers and has since become a beloved institution. You can find it everywhere and it is so, so addictive.

#2 Beef Frickin’ Rendang
Padang cuisine is well-known for its spicy and flavorful dishes. Beef Rendang is an absolute must-try. It's kind of like Beef Curry, but without the broth. We enjoy this meal since it takes a long time to cook in order to extract the softness from the meat. Try this Padang delicacy and tell the world how delicious it is!

#3 Nasi Goreng
The National dish of Indonesia. The popularity of Indonesian Fried Rice has swept the world by storm. Everyone has had Fried Rice at some point in their lives, and it is the most adaptable food available. Combine it with vegetables, chicken, steak, fish, or anything else you can think of. The use of a sweet, rich soy sauce called kecap manis and served with acar, pickled cucumber and carrots distinguishes Indonesian Fried Rice.

#4 Sop Buntut (Oxtail Soup)
It’s all in the name, really. Basically, It's a soup with Oxtail as the major ingredient. Although it is often assumed that oxtail soup was originated in London in the seventeenth century, this Indonesian form of oxtail soup remains popular to this day. Many people like this rich and hearty soup. Oxtail is often fried or grilled and served with a soup base. Very yummy and delicious.

#5 Nasi Uduk
This flavorful meal is a staple in Indonesian cuisine. The centerpiece of the dish is coconut milk-cooked rice. It is served with fried chicken, tempe (soybean cake), omelette, fried onion and anchovies on top of the rice (melinjo nut crackers). Nasi Uduk is incomplete without sambal. Lunchtime audiences love this meal.

But wait, there’s more..!

#6 Indomie Ramen
Look, okay, we know, but hear us out.. see the thing is, this noodle made the list because it is so deliciously wicked that we can't help but fall for it. For just 25 cents each pack, you get a quick, great tasting treat. It's none other than Indomie Ramen! The best instant ramen in the world with so many flavors to pick from, you'll have more than enough options. Give it a try and tell us if Indonesian Indomie is superior than the other ramens.

So there you have it, our Top 5(ish) Indonesian dishes worth visiting Indonesia only to taste them all.
Drooling yet? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Breaking News!
Indonesia bans travelers from eight countries to prevent the spread of Omicron Variant

Apa Kabar! Beginning November 29th, 2021, Indonesia has decided to prohibit travelers from eight countries in order to prevent the spread of the new variation of COVID-19 B.1.1.529, or the Omicron variant.

The eight countries are as follows:
South Africa (SA)

Botswana

Namibia

Zimbabwe

Lesotho

Mozambique

Eswatini

Nigeria

This ban is indicated in the circular letter number IMI-0269.GR.01.01 of 2021 from the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham). It was signed on November 27th by the Acting Director-General of Immigration, Widodo Eka Tjahjana.

"In response to the dynamics of the emergence of a new variant of COVID-19 B.1.1.529 from outside the territory of Indonesia," the Directorate General of Immigration stated, "the Directorate General of Immigration has issued regulations restricting international travelers who will enter Indonesian territory."

Arya Pradhana Anggakara (Angga), the Directorate General of Immigration's Head of Public Relations and General Affairs, announced in a statement on Sunday, November 28th.

The WHO announced that variation B.1.1.529 was discovered for the first time in South Africa on November 24, 2021. The virus has quickly spread to a number of countries.

"If any foreigners have visited these nations within the last 14 days, they would be denied admission into Indonesia at immigration checkpoints," Angga added.

Furthermore, the Directorate General of Immigration has temporarily halted the issuance of visit visas and limited stay visas to citizens of aforementioned countries.

"I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses."

-Bill Bryson

Do you remember how you used to play as a kid? All you had to do was make the best of each day since you had so few issues. Nobody could hold you back, and you wouldn't take no for an answer. You were unstoppable.

It was impossible for you to let the opinions of others keep you from taking action, and you were always trying out new things. Astonishing new discoveries were made on a daily basis.
When you were a kid, you didn't know what to do with yourself. Your priorities were shifted by society. You grew wealthy. Alternatively, you may have purchased a home. Or perhaps you've tied the knot. Perhaps you had a family of your own.
Then you forget how to adapt the best aspects of childhood to your adult life. Suddenly, you were unable to come up with new ideas since you had ceased producing any.

Our need for information as children is rekindled when we encounter something new and wonder, "What's that?" when we see something we've never seen before. Traveling is essentially a never-ending educational experience disguised as a thrill.

When we travel, we are reminded that we don't have to recall information and details for a stupid test, and that learning is a delight in itself. Take our time, slow down, and take in as much as you can while you're doing it. The only reason we're doing this is because we want to.

Breaking News

International Arrivals Quarantine Reduced to Two Nights

The government has revised the quarantine period for new arrivals. The hotel quarantine period is reduced from five to three days.
Addendum to Circular 2021 regarding international travel health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic states this change. On November 2nd, COVID-19 Task Force Leader Ganip Warsito signed it.

Upon arrival in Indonesia, everyone is subjected to PCR retests. Quintuple-dose patients will be quarantined for five days. Vaccine-certified international arrivals must be quarantined for two nights and three days.

Except for the foreign representative office head and their family, all Indonesians and foreigners, including diplomats, must be quarantined.

Both Indonesians and foreigners must take a second PCR test under the following conditions:

1) A traveler quarantined for five days will have their second PCR on the fourth day.

2) A traveler quarantined for three days will have a second PCR on the third day.

As stated in a press release on November 2nd, "PCR tests must be negative at the time of departure, arrival, and quarantine."

On the other hand, a three-day PCR test is required for those who only received one of two doses.

"Antigen test results can be used for people from Java and Bali as well as other parts of the world," said Airlangga.

Apa Kabar! If you're considering moving to Indonesia to work, play, or retire, here are three popular expat destinations.

Kemang, Jakarta, Indonesia, is one of the best places to live in the city. Aside from the many international schools in Kemang, the area also has many high-end residential areas.

Kemang is also a popular choice for expats from EU and US who work in local businesses. A house in Kemang costs between Rp.26 million and Rp.33 million (US$2,000-$2,500) per month, or Rp.312 million and Rp.396 million (US$23,000-$29,000) annually.

Expats can take advantage of the area's many well-designed working cafes. The Golden Triangle has many restaurants, shopping malls, and office buildings.

And don't forget Sanur, Bali's most popular tourist and expat destination. Bali now has around 2100 foreign residents (surely the real number is higher than the reported one).

Sanur has long been a favorite among balinese seeking peace and quiet. Its proximity to beaches and international schools makes it ideal. Sanur is a popular choice for expats due to its tranquility and relaxation.

The monthly cost of living in Sanur ranges from Rp.6 million (US$450) to Rp.10 million (US$750). If you're on a budget, it's cheaper than Kuta or Seminyak.

Expatriates usually retire to Sanur.

Yogyakarta is another great option.
Yogyakarta has many young foreign exchange students. The city is also a good choice for expats seeking peace.

Despite its size, the city has many art and tourist communities.

Yogyakarta has lower living costs than other Indonesian cities. An 85-square-meter apartment costs between Rp.3 million and Rp.5 million (US$225 and $375). A family rents a home for around Rp.16 million ($1,200).

Restaurant costs are also low. For a fine meal, you can expect to pay around Rp.140,000 (US$10.50). International schools in the area cost around Rp.156 million (US$11,700).

Understand cultures other than your own.
